Noticed oil leaking, couple of questions.

As a noob, do I risk doing it myself?
What seal do you recommend? Genuine or use ECP?
The re learning procedure I’m a bit sketchy on doing it.

Last question has anyone had it done around brum and can recommend somewhere?

Easy job. Go genuine on the gasket.
Loads of guides on YouTube. Take your time it’s only nuts and bolts.

Use a BMW or Mahle.
There is a procedure for turning the motor with an allen key in the end of the spindle until it bottoms, counting the turns.
Then as you remove it and the spindle rotates count the turns also.
Dont move the motor after removal.
]When reinserting the motor you also need to turn the spindle back the same number of turns as the worm drive engages.
Once its in place wind the motor back tomits original position.
Many say if you just pull it out and then reinsert it the motor will sort out its running position itself .
I did mine counting the turns in and out and it subsequently started and ran perfectly. N52 3.0si.

oOO this has pickled my brain :lol: Will check out some YouTube videos and see if I'm feeling confident. How long did it take you Rucky?

+1 on what Rucky said. Have done procedure this way on two different N52's and worked well; just go slowly.

Be wary of some You Tubers they " forget" the important bits - too busy filming. It's a morning's work but if you are keeping the car it's probably worth doing the oil filter housing and oil cooler gaskets at the same time. Again buy BMW or Mahle or you will end up doing it twice, can't remember if I posted here or on Z4 owners forum, worth checking!
