Oil Change after included service

Post by PaperSniper » Wed Jan 31, 2024 2:54 pm

My 2020 Z4 has about 16500 miles on it. Last "included" oil change was at 12000 miles. My car has started notifying me its due an oil change in 6k or this month. This will be the first service for which I'll have to pay.

Especially for USA residents, has everyone taken their car to the dealer for an oil change? What was the cost? If you took your car elsewhere, like Jiffy Lube and similar places, did they reset that service reminder? What was their charge. I called a place that specializes in BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Rolls, etc and they quoted "just under $200". That seems nuts to me!

Thanks.

Oil Change after included service

Post by PeterE » Wed Jan 31, 2024 3:25 pm

Just had my chargeable 16,000 mile/2 year oil change done by selling main dealer - no change out of GBP400/US$500! Also included was the cabin microfilter but the most expensive component was the oil at GBP160/US$200. Had to use main dealer so as not to compromise remaining manufacturer's warranty.
Now: 2022 Z4 G29 M40i, SFR/Cognac, Comfort, Driving & Technology Packs, collected 22/02/2022, 2017 Mustang S550 GT 5.0l Manual & 1978 Triumph Stag 3.0l manual
Before: 1974 Jaguar E Type S3 V12 OTS & 2019 Mazda MX-5 2.0l GT Sport Nav+

Not sure how long you are intending to keep your car but the 5 Year BMW Service Inclusive Package is £911 which seems pretty good value to me when you break down the individual cost of each service.

Didn't realise it had gone up - glad I bought the plan at the same time I took delivery of my car

Yeah, I saw that the cost had gone up a lot. For me the jury's out on whether or not I keep the car when my three year PCP is paid off next February and the car will be three years old. Realistically, as I hit the 3/4 century this year, I won't be in the running for a new Z4 so it's hand back, purchase or purchase/sell on, depends on the real value v/s baloon payment.

As I just paid for the oil change and the only items due before the three years are up are a brake fluid change next January and MoT on the three year anniversary; coughing up over a Grand to take me to five years doesn't make economic sense which to be fair was what the selling Dealer advised when I picked up the car.

So nobody in the USA has a Z4? 8)

I got a flyer for a "Bimmer Doctor" place near me running a special oil change for $90, but it excludes "M" cars, which mine is. Not sure what's different on an M car, but apparently enough for them to limit the price.

Any reason why the Z4M would cost more? At one time I changed my own oil, etc, but those days are behind me....a lot. I'm 77 years old now and crawling on the ground is an indication of a medical emergency, not the sight of a DIYer.
