And as a business user, I am allowed to charge the electricity 100% against the company as well, no matter how much I use. Whilst with petrol you have the scale charges for private use, not with elec.

A charging station is going to have sunk costs to install and then operational costs to maintain. It will have downtime/lack of utilisation to cover. The value of the space it takes up vs the loss of income for that being something else (especially in small venues) etc.
A quick google pulled up a US site that looked at the business model of charging stations (admittedly it is US based but it was one of the first to appear in the list) and it stated a profit margin of between 15-30% which is not abnormal by any means. I mean, a tea bag and some hot water is literally a few pence but people quite happily pay £2 for it from a stall at a car meet and walk away happy

But in the UK they always state that their profit comes from the shop, not the fuel (when they are accused of profiteering on the fuel prices).
Now they have someone sitting there for 40 minutes charging, probably having a coffee and other stuff from the shop - then they have to make up their mind where their profit is supposedly coming from.

There is still a profit in the fuel you pump for the retailer, yes they earn more in the shop, but there is still a margin.
But we cannot compare like for like. Yes cars are the common denominator but EV charging is a completely different technology at a very different state of maturity vs forecourt fuels.

Using a diesel generator
Joking aside, I think that this is already happening.
The AA/RAC have a van with a diesel generator to charge electric vehicles that have run out of power at the side of the road.

There we go....the 'green' movement in full swing in the UK.
It doesn't even surprise me.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

Just checked my generator - it doesn't have a label on it, nor does i have a particle filter. Looking at it, not sure where the exhaust is
