I have somehow managed to break my ashtray cover. I was a bit heavy handed and pushed it down hard, now it won't catch and just springs back open. Any ideas how to fix it?

It may not be completely broken but to find out you will have to remove the centre trim as the ashtray is screwed on from underneath.
I posted pics on here years ago of the underside and the small pin that can jump out of place.

Or you could consider replacing the ashtray with a cup holder. A member on here linked to https://bimmercup.com/. Don't be scared off by the price - it is initially in Danish Kroner, but converts to around UKP30.

It could be that the sprung metal piece has popped out and is now residing somewhere underneath the centre console panel. You'll need to remove the panel and then, if you can find it, this thread should be helpful to you...

Thanks for the help and ideas guys. Looks like I need to get the tools out and have a look at the mechanism.
