Basic gramophone question…
Time to upgrade the ‘Business’…what a stupid name… radio in the 35i. I’m thinking it being the basic offering is a good thing as with no factory amp hopefully I can just add a DSP and a couple of meaty amps, two underseat subs, Focal mids and tweets with all new quality wiring run straight from the amps bypassing the standard wiring, without the usual issues with the factory amp etc. is this feasible…?

Could you not just ask Peter via PM? Saves another one of his expert monologues on all things sound related with the e89!
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

No but I've got some spare BMW-spec speakers if you want them...

Ungrateful bar-steward.
You do realise Peter probably won't respond now, and TBF he IS the best to answer your questions judging by the £40k he has spent on his 'sounds', all so he can listen to Des O'Connor in full surround sound at 300db!

Basic gramophone question…
Yes pretty straightforward…the headunit needs to be coded for Hi-fi as opposed to whatever it’s called as the 2 rear channels are badly tailored frequency slope ..john-e89 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 9:51 pm Time to upgrade the ‘Business’…what a stupid name… radio in the 35i. Otherwise fine..
Enjoy
Quite a few people now do harness adapters for this basic version …

Thanks for the clarification Peter, appreciate that, as well as the coding point.B21 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2024 10:14 amYes pretty straightforward…the headunit needs to be coded for Hi-fi as opposed to whatever it’s called as the 2 rear channels are badly tailored frequency slope ..john-e89 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 9:51 pm Time to upgrade the ‘Business’…what a stupid name… radio in the 35i. I've done just this, changed all speakers added two amps and two subs in the panel behind the rear seats as well as a MMI box and I did not code anything and it all works very well. Here's the thread:

Should mention, regarding fitting underseat subs. I don't think there is enough space under the seats to put anything.

By default the 6 speaker system has a high end roll off filter on the back 2 channels..which unless you code it or have a very fancy reverse filter processor will mean they continue to have high end roll off..FWIWSilverstar wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2024 4:50 pm I've done just this, changed all speakers added two amps and two subs in the panel behind the rear seats as well as a MMI box and I did not code anything and it all works very well. A really crap frequency response …in a desperate bid to try and get something out of the shite speakers and address various issues the signal is very heavily processed..the same but to a lesser extent happens on the front..on 676/677 set ups the headunit is set to hi-fi aka flat as any tailoring / processing is done in the amp not the head unit..
So FWIW any set up using the basic head without coding is really an amplified abomination

This might be but to my non audiophile and poor quality ears I can’t tell the difference and it sounds great to me!
But seriously I’ve had people in my car and all have commented how great the system sounds, but then again none of them are audiophiles either.

Been many tests where people have been played massively adulterated music but because it’s got certain attributes like lots of treble or bass it’s perceived as great..at the end of the day if you’re happy that’s all that matters..Silverstar wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2024 10:45 pmThis might be but to my non audiophile and poor quality ears I can’t tell the difference and it sounds great to me!

To me seems crazy to spend good money on decent gear and not have it set up right..
I’m merely pointing out the facts..let that never get in the way of a Forum opinion..
