Water ingress behind passenger seat.

Post by Silverback355 » Fri Apr 12, 2024 3:39 pm

Hi Guys.
2.0l 2005 pre facelift.
I've had an Airbag light on my dash. I've located the Airbag module behind the carpet on the passenger side, thanks to enuff_zed and his advice. πŸ˜‰πŸ‘ŒI completely removed the passenger seat and lifted the carpet. It was soaked. 🀦😭 I'm guessing it's the door seals that could be leaking. Anyone else got an indoor swimming pool. πŸ˜‚

Most likely the door membrane.
With the door open and window up, run a hose along the bottom of the glass and check for water coming in along the bottom of ther door card. Usually about 6 inches back from the front edge.
If not that, then possibly the roof drain blocked wherre the roof motor lives. But if it's full enough to run down the front then I'd expect to see evidence of water around the left shelf support in the boot.
Third option is blocked drains under the scuttle panel, letting water build up and sneak in around the pollen filter housing.

So are you thinking SBSL for the airbag light then? Or possibly the centre SIM85?

Hi enuff_zed, I'll try the hose pipe trick tomorrow. 🀞I used my Ancel obd reader after I removed the seat, disconnected all the seat connections to see what faults it brought up. After a bit of faffing about and erasing faults I don't have an airbag light on now. πŸ€”πŸ€·. I'm just wondering by removing all the water from the floor it might have resolved things. πŸ€” I've taken a picture of the airbag module. πŸ‘

Silverback355, you may have been very lucky then.
Just checked and have a '2887' here should you need it.

enuff_zed, I can see what happens over the weekend and if I get anymore lights on the dash I'll be in touch mate, thanks. Think I need to sort out the water ingress and see what develops. 🀞🀞

Hi mate, I washed the car over the weekend and tried the hose pipe on the doors. The water is getting away from the drain holes at the bottom of the door. The Airbag light has come back on so until I get the water ingress sorted I will be looking at getting a new module from you. Thanks. πŸ˜‰πŸ‘

. Will do, it's got me baffled where it's coming in from. Think it's gonna be a 2 man job, seats out, carpets lifted and someone spraying water while I'm spotting inside. 🀦😭 I'll be in touch very soon as it's ready for a MOT next month. 😭
