Strange fault (DSC?)

Post by cusword » Mon Apr 15, 2024 2:04 pm

The other day I started off and at about 10mph in my auto 2004 Z4 having selected Drive. The car started to jump/jerk with the engine revs going up and down. The DSC light was on. I selected reverse and 'hopped' backwards back down the road and onto my drive.....car still hopping. I switch off, and restarted, and it was fine. I took another car to work.

I have done a few short drives since and it has been fine. Just once I think I caught a flash of the DSC warning light on, after start up.

I should also say occasionally the dreaded gearbox cog light comes on at start up but a restart clears it.

The car has done 55k miles.

Any Ideas on the kangerooing?

David

I had similar symptoms on my e46

After changing the rear trailing arm bushes the problem persisted- the next roll of the dice was the ABS sensor which sorted the intermittent issue

And a decent code reader should tell you which sensor was misbehaving.

To be fair there weren’t any codes- just the DSC cutting in on hard acceleration on a left turn

I know I could have plugged the reader in for live data…

If you used something like scanner 1.4 you would see stores codes too

I read today that it is temperamental on W10 but works on XP, 7 or 8. Went straight onto my W8.1 no problem.
