BMW Z4 E85 2.0 2007

Post by kingwahwah » Mon Apr 15, 2024 8:55 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of selling my Z4, which I've owned for a couple of years now and has been well maintained and cared for in my ownership.

I purchased it back in May 2022 for what was supposed to be a "Top Gear Challenge" with a couple of friends to buy a car, do a Scottish NC500 road trip, then sell the car afterwards. However, I enjoyed the Z4 so much, I opted to keep it.

I looked at some really sketchy examples when I was searching to buy that had sodden carpets, mouldy seat belts, smoker smells, missing V5s, hoods that didn't work etc.

I bought this car from a lovely married couple who ran an equestrian charity, as it was a solid and honest car in the blue colour I wanted which mainly just needed some cosmetic TLC, a few DIY jobs and a really good detailing.

Reason for sale
-------------------
I'm a lifelong biker and after a couple of years without 2 wheels, I've now purchased another motorbike and I'm finding myself choosing the bike as my first toy of choice on a nice sunny day.

My wife has (rightly) pointed out that I have too many hobbies and not enough time, and I can't ride the bike and drive the Z4 at the same time, so it is time for someone else to enjoy it now.

Finally, I like a bit of a "do-up project" and the repairing/researching/end result is the major part of the ownership enjoyment for me and I've had that enjoyment with the Z4 but finding I'm spending my time looking at bike parts and modifications nowadays as the Z4 is pretty much "done".

Specs & Details
-------------------
£3,995
V5 present, in my name
MOT until Feb 2025 - last test was clean with no advisories
98,500 miles (rising slightly as I do still use it)
Working heated seats
Partial service history
Service/Owners manuals present
Roof working totally fine (motor in original location...I've just regularly kept on top of the drainage plug not getting blocked)
No water ingress (or previous history of water leaks/mould)
Wind deflector fitted (after market)
Car located near Durham
Clear car history check report (feel free to do your own)

Work done during my ownership
---------------------------------------
Major service carried out 12 months ago at a BMW specialist at a cost of £350+VAT
4 x new tyres fitted around 6 months ago, so loads of life left
New brake master cylinder fitted
2 x new front brake flexis
Brembo front pads
VANOS oil seals replaced
Vacuum Pump o-rings replaced and oil leak repaired
Leather upholstery renovation
Professional paintless dent removal on the whole car (so no panels are dented)
Professional paintwork repair to bonnet due to a cosmetic scratch (I bought it with the scratch)
Repair to pin-sized hole in exhaust manifold using JB Weld
Alloy wheels repainted and clear lacquered
Lots and lots of cleaning, polishing and waxing.

Less good points
----------------
- The paintwork repair on the bonnet, albeit professionally done, isn't a perfect finish and there is some small areas of orange peel if you look close enough
- One of the white side reflectors on the front bumper has a crack. I could not bring myself to pay £40 for a new one, so I have used reflector stick-on film which I honestly don't think you would know any different
- The alloy wheels are completely fine, but they aren't a professional-level refurb job, so if this is important to you, you may want to get them done. If I was keeping the car for longer, I would probably invest in this.
- The car is a 15 year-old regular driver, so the paintwork does have some age-related marks.
- There is a scratch on the silver dash panel above the glove box, which is invisible most of the time but can be seen when the light is at the right angle.

Summary
-----------
This is a lovely looking, honest and solid Z4 in the best colour option in my opinion.
It certainly doesn't look like a cheap car and always draws positive compliments from people.
If you're looking for a nice, cheap Z4 for some summer fun, I think you could do a lot worse than buying mine.
I'm not desperate to sell and not desperate for money, so please only genuine interested buyers and I'd rather keep it for another year than give it away for silly cheap.
If you're looking for an immaculate garage queen, you're probably best looking elsewhere, but I'm a big believer in cars being used as things that are designed to move, should be used, not stand stationary.
I have lots of photos of pretty much everything I've done since I bought the car to back up the jobs done etc. which I'm happy to show potential buyers.

I've tried to be open and honest and give as much information as I can.

If you have any queries or wish to arrange an inspection, please PM me.
