Re: AUX DIY
I just got around to doing this over lunch. Thanks for all the input everyone. I ran out and got the Mini version and accessed through the little door under the HVAC controls. I found the plug pretty easily but it was tricky getting it back in. It took about 5 minutes. When I get home I'll properly install it.
I also bought a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adaptor so I can also stream radio from my phone as well as play my ipod.

Re: AUX DIY
Is this a BMW supplied part?cenetti wrote:I used part # 82 11 0 142 174What Aux in did you use? It looks different to mine - I put mine through the funny thing in the ashtray (guessing for stubbing out cigarettes).
It came with its own ashtray (aux built in). According to the manual that came with it, it says " replace the ashtray with (aux in/coin holder) " you don't use the original ashtray after its all done.

Re: AUX DIY
I don't think so. That part number is for the cable only. I plan to mount my Mini one in that fashion though. On the way home to clean it up.

561design, Mount the cable end under the A/C panel. Much cleaner look, rather than the ashtray

UGH! Too late! I just mounted it the same way as shown in the Bavarian picture posted above. I'm just excited I can listen to things outside of the radio now.ovrkll wrote:561design, Mount the cable end under the A/C panel. Much cleaner look, rather than the ashtray

Re: AUX DIY
another happy customer. got the part ending in 502, £39.10 from dealers, just installed in 10mins.
one thing i would say about the vent removal - i was just pushing to the back of the vent with a torch looking for the clip - once you realise it's in the tiny rectangular hole on the ceiling of the vent entry it's easy.
im stoked - my sony ericsson P1i is a lot louder than my head unit, and with a 4gb memory stick has more than enough music / videos on it to keep me entertained - i won't be rushing to put amps in for a while now as it's a lot louder and clear enough at higher volumes than the radio or mp3 cds.

Re: AUX DIY
you have to mod the lead to "merge" the cd wires, as it plugs into the same socket.
doesn't look too tricky, thought I'd try mine later on as I'm trying to source a changer.

Re: AUX DIY
Its easy, as long as you're careful and patient and don't bend the pins - then get it stuck - like me!
I just cut away the plastic connector in the end.

Re: AUX DIY
Guys, ive had a little pickle with my install and could do with some help...
Basically i installed the wires from the AUX (mini/E39 version) into my CD changer connector fine in what i believed to be the correct positions. However the radio didnt show me the AUX mode.
I unplugged everything to check, and with a multimeter found that ONLY the Brown wire is showing a connection to the Base (opposite to the tip) of the 3.5mm Jack! The Red/Blue wires dont seem to be connected!? Does this sound at all correct? Looks as though ill be butchering the cable tomorrow anyway!
If anyone has any photos of their final CD Changer/Aux connector pinout it would be greatly appreciated

Re: AUX DIY
Right then, after looking at the pinout, ive noticed that im trying the wrong port!! Some people on here said that they combined the AUX IN with the CD Changer connector but this isnt the case! Its actually the TV/Nav/Phone connector (the lower right!!)
Aux Pins:
Connector C
Pin 3 = TV L+
Pin 4 = TV R+
Pin 10 = TV L/R-
The problem now arises that my Z has the TV, Nav and Bluetooth Phone so will have a play with the input to make sure there is no interference. Ill have to get my soldering iron out!

Re: AUX DIY
Had no problem with mine, the aux cable just plugged into the head unit - the multichanger is wired separately so didn't have to merge any wires across connectors... took 5 mins once I'd figured the vent removal out
Sounds great from my iPhone - super clear and tons of bass, guess that's the Carver system at it's best..!
