Post by mcbeee » Tue Jul 13, 2010 10:03 pm

I agree. Cars are meant to be shiny.

I love the matte finish. My cousin just had his Ferrari f430 wrapped in matte black. Looks amazing.

I am seriously considering this for mine. It is a big step, although it is reversible if you feel you've made a mistake and just have to write off the £1,000 or so it would cost.

I do like how they look, and with silver wheels (Black is just too much) the Z looks great

Whilst browsing the for sale section of pistonheads i came across what looked like a bargain. After reading the description it said - the car had been wrapped in white, didnt like it so i had it removed, now the offside door and rear quarter are in need of a respray as laquer has been removed.

I know they say it has no detrimental effects to your paintwork but...

Hmmm - customer of mine has just chopped in his Alpine White M3 for a "Frozen Grey" one. Didn't like the sound of it, but in the tin it looks absolutely stunning.

Matt Black is on the way out - it always makes a car look dirty to me. Especially with ugly black wheels.

It's pretty stunning. But incredibly hard to maintain; you cannot wax it or polish it, and are supposed to use a 'wet sponge' to remove any contaminants immediately (Read - bird poo)...now of course you are supposed to do that on traditional paint to avoid damage but manufacturers don't usually put a disclaimer like that in a letter when you buy the car. hideously expensive to repair, too as only BMW body shops can do it.....or so they claim.

I think it's stunning but the maintenance would worry me. E92 M3 with Competition Pack:

No lacquer to protect the paint. I can't imagine how to keep the paintwork free from damage.
Current BMW: 640d Gran Coupe M Sport (F06), 118d SE (F20).
Previous BMW: Z4 sDrive23i M Sport (E89), 318i Sport (F30), 120d SE (F20), Z4 2.5i Sport Roadster (E85), 523i Sport (E60), 323Ci (E46), 523i SE (E39), 318i (E36).

The lacquer on new BMW's doesn't exactly keep the paintwork free from damage anyway if my Z4 is anything to go by! :?
3.0si Z4 Coupe then an sDrive 35i Z4. Great cars, now gone. Range Rover Evoque owner now! :)

Yep - Mikedav - that's exactly the car he's got. I can't believe how much I liked it. Am not a big fan of Matte cars as a rule. There was some "black goo" from road/brake dust on the rear wheel arches which he wiped off as soon as he arrived. But then it's brand new, so wonder how long he will keep being so fastidious...
