The Z4M has very unusual clutch feel. That, added to the clunky gearbox and it's very alien if you've just stepped out of a Nissan Micra.

What i can say is that once you've mastered it - it is very rewarding.

I still laugh at the thought of the dealer I bought mine off passing me the keys when I wanted to take it for a test drive and saying "we're supposed to drive you away from the dealership to a safe area but you might as well drive". Setting off, I was driving like a learner. I realised why he didn't want to drive. Despite this, I still bought it as I good hooked straight away.

Call me a masochist but the gearbox/clutch challenge is one reason I love the car so much.

I did too on my test drive... The dealership guy must've thought it was my first time behind the wheel of a manual car.... :D

Yeah I think Kangarooing on the test drive is a right of passage.

The first I drove the salesman took me to a safe place. The second just let me drive from the garage and also told me to "give it some" when we got on a clear road.

I haven't noticed the clutch being heavy though, it just takes some getting used to.

Along with kangarooing at the lights I'd say scarying yourself silly the first time you really drop the hammer on an empty b road is also up there. The rear wiggling out is quite an unnerving experience to the uninitiated or it certainly was for me!

I drive a lot in traffic. I agree with the comments on the Boxster, I owned one and thought it was a wearisome clutch in traffic. The easiest one I've owned was an S2000. Too easy, like butter. Boring. The 944 Turbo's clutch was similar to the M's. Toughest in traffic . . . '85 911.

Go with it.
