Insurance + mods
What happens to your insurance when you mod your car? I have been running some tests on comparison sites and have been getting some worrying results. For example, it looks like changing my wheels will cost me £50 extra a year. And adding a supercharger will cost an extra 6.5k a year!
How do you get insured with a supercharger?

Don't think comparison sites work well with mods. Better off going direct to Adrian flux, Chris knott etc.

Re: Insurance + mods
You use a specialist company who will cover mods on a like for like basis in the event of a claim and has a more liberal view towards covering them without stacking your premium.
It is worth thinking about before you mod though. The TT that I had before my Z4M was very modified (about an a4 page was sent to companies when getting quotes), but I reckon that only added £150 all in.
I've just added wheels to my new policy for no charge.

I'm 32, was on confused.com. Managed to get one for £1600 (basic car with supercharger) on comparethemarket.com however if i add wheels and and exhust it only returns 2 results and their both nearly 10k.

Re: Insurance + mods
Just got off the phone with Chris knott, they can't do it at all. I was told that they have had to tighten up their rules on performance mods and wont do anything that adds more than 50bhp. I was also told that the type of car is getting more difficult to insure due to national statistics . Some people out there giving bmw drivers bad names!
I'm waiting for a call back from Adrian flux.

Re: Insurance + mods
i had a modified celica... with pages of mods listed... and with AF only performance mods cost extra, so wheels, body kit etc added nothing to the premium.
I am with admiral now for my Z and with my aftermarket wheels the premium went up by £30.

Re: Insurance + mods
yea everywhere I ring up are telling me that the rules have changed this year. Although I was told that insurance prices have gone up over 50% I still managed to get mine for the same as last year. The supercharge is the main thing I'm concerned about. I really want one, but even if i find a decent deal insuring my car with one now, it might cause problems down the line if insurers decide to change their point of view again.

Re: Insurance + mods
Chris Knott does not touch M full stop, so I am surprised you got that far in the quoting process.
I gave up on doing mods on the M as my company is very mod unfriendly, but then again I only pay just below £400 for mine a year.
