Alloy Wheel Brake Dust

Post by soundboy10 » Tue Oct 18, 2011 12:24 pm

Hi guys,

I have browsed the forum for suggestions on this, but with no clear answer. My alloys attract a lot of brake dust, within an hour of driving after cleaning. I have been looking at some rim wax, but wanted to know if anyone had used it with success.

If not, has anyone any other suggestions?

Cheers

Neil

Swap to low dust pads such as EBC and seal the rims with something like Poorboys. Reduces dust to near zero and what is on, rinses off.

I use Autoglym SRP followed by EGP. Works a treat. Still get dust but it easily washes off.

I recently replaced my OEM brake pads with Pagid and they are noticeably better..

I also use Poorborys wheel seal every month which helps to stop the dust sticking to the rims and damaging them

Poorboys wheel sealant is absolutely brilliant. Applied generously to my refurbished alloys and have been amazed at the ease of cleaning since.

Thanks Guys, I ordered some Poorboys last night.

Would you suggest a couple of applications to start with, or will one do? And how often do you re-apply? I know it will have instructions on, but wanted a users point of view.

Cheers

Best thing i have found and taking advice from the guy who details my car is wash wheels thoroughly with PH neutral cleaner (I just use my zymol shampoo), followed by a good polish (autoglym SRP or similar) then apply a good generous coat of the poorboys wheel seal. I was advised to do this every four washes which works out monthly for me. Wheels get noticeably harder to clean towards the end of the four weeks when its wearing off.
