Red symmetrical taillights: MOT-proof!
Found this how-to on a dutch forum actually. So here's a quick translation for you guys! (sorry if this a re-post)
This is an easy mod for this type of tail lights:
So the problem is that the single reversing light is no longer white. However, the indicator glass is still clear and could be used both as an indicator and reversing lights. This way you can do a fun mod: install TWO reversing lights and TWO rear fog lights!
What you need is a small round led light that you can fix on top of the indicator light holder:
On the holder of the reversing light, solder the red and black cable of the led rings:
It should look like this now:
And the final result (he only did one side):
I'll give this a go myself if I can find the right parts!

OK... seems to be a little harder than I thought it would be. The holes for the indicators are pretty small. No way to get those rings in there... I'll have to look for an alternative with smaller superbright leds. The story continues!

Interesting. Wonder where the original poster sourced the LEDs from?

Wel, I think he got 1 of these. Judging by the pictures, I would say he meant the 50 mm ones (same picture in the ebay add). But these rings are way too big to get in the lights without a cut and shut...

It's not from a Dutch forum, it's from THE Dutch z forum www.z3forum.nl / www.z4forum.nl
Relevant forum member for this mod there is zzz-woudsend. However he never finalized this mod: originally used leds turned outbto be too weak, newly sourced leds did not fit. However, this must be fairly easy to solve, following zzz-woudsend's kind first efforts...

Indeed, but if you want to use rings, a cut and shut is really the only way...
I'm still brainstorming on some idea's though

You don't need a reversing light for mot, sounds like a lot of hassle fitting led rings into the indicator hole.

It is, I never got round to doing it and had no remarks at MOT anyway.
Putting in a simple led light is another option.

I'm 99% certain that would be illegal as no light should shine from the rear of the car other than red or amber (aside small number plate illuminations that's not directed rearwards)
