FREE Air-Intake Mod: Full Details on Page 6 of this thread
There's a very simple mod that can be done to the OEM air-intake system which is completely reversible and which datalogging shows gives a performance gain. I've never seen anyone previously describe this mod, so I'd like to do a bit of testing with the help of forum members.
Rather than simply posting details of the mod on here, today, I'd like to ask anyone with a Z4M who is interested in giving this mod a try, to send me an email: [email protected] and just give me:
1. Your Username on this forum
2. Whether you own a MC or MR
2. If you have an aftermarket exhaust, the brand of the exhaust
3. The number of miles you've driven in your Z4M
I have no idea how many people will want to try this mod, so I will reveal the full details to all who send me an email by 31st May 2013. I will then ask all those people to try the mod during June, and give their subjective and/or objective impressions of this mod after a few weeks of testing so that the testers all form their opinions independently of each other. The skill level required to do this mod is that you can look inside your air-filter box and reassemble the filter box properly (sometimes this is beyond technicians at BMW dealerships!)
I don't want to choose specific forum members as testers who I think might report more favourably, so I'm hoping that those who've crossed swords with me and those who think ram-air intakes can't work, will join in too.
When the volunteers have had the opportunity to test the mod, I will then disclose the full details of the mod on the forum for all and sundry to see and discuss.
* EDIT You don't need to express your interest by saying so in this thread: just send me an email so that we can keep the testing as "blind" as possible. I'll post up the numbers of volunteers on 1st June, so everyone knows how many are taking part. When the testers have done some testing they can post whatever comments they like then.

Will this apply to a 3.0i?
Are the intakes the same?

Re: FREE Air-Intake Mod: Testers required
I've not yet seen the air intake system of the 3.0i in person, but looking at the parts diagram, I expect that this mod will be applicable to the car.sam1832 wrote:Will this apply to a 3.0i?

For the purposes of this test though, I'm wanting to restrict it to the Z4M only, to reduce the variables and since I've done all the R&D on intake mods on the Z4M, I'd like to take one step at a time.
Once the testers have had an opportunity to test this mod during the month of June, I will then openly describe this mod on this forum for all to see and the testers can then give their opinions.
