HOWTO: Fix wiper resting point issues
Thank you so much sk93.
It took me closer to 90 minutes because I am not practiced or particularly gifted under the bonnet - and getting the wiper blades off was very time consuming, perseverance was the key! However, even I was able to achieve the desired effect using your brilliant guide. Thanks again

HOWTO: Fix wiper resting point issues
Nice post. I will need to do this to my 2003. One question. To remove the wiper arms, any reason to not use a battery terminal puller like I do on my other cars?

I don’t see why not, as long as it pulls the wiper up from its spline it should do the job

HOWTO: Fix wiper resting point issues
Just did the repair. No at all hard. Took me about 1 1/2 hours because I am slow.
Some observations:
-My cowl cover did not have any of the 4 front pins in place. I just put it back. We will see.
-The windshield wipers came right off. Not at all like the ones on my bus that always require a puller.
-The retaining clip for the electrical connector broke off. (Car has 120,000 miles). Put some dilectric grease on it and pushed it back together. Hopefully it will hold.
-The drain under the moter was filled with nasty gunk. Vacuumed it out and clead the rubber flappy thingy.
Thanks for a great DIY Article!

HOWTO: Fix wiper resting point issues
Great guide, thanks fella. Did this yesterday, took about 3hrs as I am useless so I work slowly and it took over an hour to get one of the wiper arms off.
Opening up the motor and cleaning the grease took 10 mins, that was the easy bit!!
There wasn't much debris behind the cowl but I take the opportunity to clean it properly and apply some Gtechnic back to black stuff.

I'd also like to add, if your wipers are returning to the bottom and then moving back up before stopping, it could also be a worn relay as was the case for me. However still happy I cleaned the motor out, found a massive pile of crap under the scuttle!

My wipers are parking up the screen a bit and I have cleaned the motor switch plate , what relay do you refer to and how does a worn relay contribute to this issue? It doesn't happen all the time, but does waste the car when its parked and they look broken, lol.
Thanks.
Iain

Just as an addendum to the great “how to” use brake cleaner to flush all grease out and re-grease (should you choose to) with vaseline, it doesn’t conduct. Never use copper grease on pivots it sets hard eventually, use silicone grease. Just my 2p worth! Great help though and thanks.
