Got rid of Run Flats

Post by Nick177 » Mon Apr 21, 2014 5:25 pm

I purchased my 2.5 Sport Z in August last year. From day one I was not very happy with the ride. When it was tram lining I just let the car do its own thing, it was quite managable. But the misses hated it and hasn't driven it since ! :?
So the plan was to run the RFT's until Spring 2014.
Yesterday, I fitted a set of staggered 18" MV3's with Vredestein Sessanta's.
Wow what a difference, it feels like a new car, much more enjoyable.
No more tram lining and better comfort.Only downside is the misses will now want to drive it !
Got a great deal from Camskill, next day delivery and only £401 plus £12 postage. :D

Great and happy to hear you get a better ride as I have experienced that tram line feeling and just thought it was bad tyre wear; although could see nothing wrong with the tyres........only done 14k since new.
The problem is what happens if you get a puncture ????? No spare wheel these days so in future you won't be able to 'drive flat' !!! .........and often the repair kits are useless if its a bad puncture. Also no jack as standard.

Hi Cristo
I got a Repair Kit from Halfords, it'll only be any good if I get a slow punture, it should get me home or garage.
In the event of a blow out. I'm a member of the AA.

I think I prefer MV3's to 108's.

Not sure they would suit a coupe though.

I'm finding this to be an issue. Did the new tyers stop the tramline?

Why do run flats cause tramline??

Stops tram-lining :)

My warning light did come on as I didn't reset after fitting the new wheels. I've reset it now and it's not come back!

Reset:

Start car, hold the tyre button in for ages... It goes amber then clears.. Takes 20 secs ish but seems like a life time

I've got a set of avon zz5's waiting to go on after my wheel refurb, the tramlining does detract from the enjoyment of the car in my opinion-it just doesn't feel natural!

Been running the Vredestein Sessanta's for a couple of days now, they have transformed the car, its now a joy to drive, with the added bonus of, a different less annoying frequency to any spurious rattles that occur during driving.
Anyone who is thinking of removing RFT's....do it now !
BMW don't quote on non RFT pressure, so I chose 32 psi all round, seems fine.
