G-Sensor / Yor Sensor Problem

Post by Mouse » Thu Sep 25, 2014 1:00 pm

Hiya,

Do any of you have any experience with dealing with a possible fault with the g-sensor/yor sensor unit please.

My zed has failed the mot on a light on the dash - garage think its this unit which is located under drivers seat, under the carpet which was wet due to a seal not sealing (now sorted) but it must already have had some water under there which I didn't know about.

Can these units be re-furbed or reset as they are £400 plus vat from dealer or is it deemed dead already. If this isn't the problem, dealer say the unit cannot be returned so a bit stuck either way really :o(

Thanks for any help

I have seen this before in other threads.

The sensor gets wet and dies and needs to be replaced.

Hi, the part had to be ordered from BMW which took a week and replaced it along with the sensor in the 'b' pillar.

It seems to be a sealed unit so not sure how it got moisture inside to ruin it. This sorted the fault and now have the mot., but those two parts alone were over £500. Aparently bmw said they had sold 60 of these sensors in 12 months and a 1000 of the sensors which go in the pillar.

Apparently it comes in to action when the zed is Driven with a lot of enthusiasm , as in track day enthusiasm.

Hi, mine was the osr wheel sensor which was being picked up as a fault, looked like an exclamation mark inside two brackets on the dash.

Yeah when i let the handbrake off, my handbrake light turns feom red to amber, and stays lit. Also i noticed my hill assist has stopped working, even though the bmw specialist i use insist it never had it and was never fitted to these models

I replaced mine about 2 months ago. Took about 1hr. Basically remove the drivers seat, lift the carpet up, undo the electrical connection undo 3 bolts if I remember correctly put new one in then everything goes back. Just remember to disconnect battery.
Got the part off ebay for around £30.
That's it plug and play - light goes off itself.
Use shipkillers guide for seat removal.
savings circa £500.

Yes it's there. Forgot to mention that when you take out the drivers seat you have to pull up the trim near the door so that it releases the carpet. The carpet does not come out fully you just work under it. In the end I proped up the carpet and left it for half a day to dry out it was one of those really hot days.

It is called a Yaw Sensor or Speed Sensor or Sensor Clustor (this last is actually written on it). The one I used was part number 34526759412. You can use one from various cars - e46, mini etc - sourced from ebay.
