Re: Wanted - daughters first car
Best advicefrom past experience is don't look for something "mint" or a keeper as the 1st car always ends up pranged & virtually worthless within 18months
Bought our son a 1.0 Polo which he loved & also struck up a love affair with VW (he's on a MK5 GTi now)
Daughter has just started & ive been scouting around , the Mitsubishi Colt's seem the best mix of age=reliability+looks+price
The Jazz whilst a decent car also comes with free bus pass, zimmer frame & false teeth

Re: Wanted - daughters first car
My 18 year old daughter passed her test in November last year, she bought (with our help) a 3 year old Clio. it's now got so many dents in it it's beyond economical repair. First one was on the day after passing her test, she scraped a teacher's car in the school car park.mr wilks wrote:Best advicefrom past experience is don't look for something "mint" or a keeper as the 1st car always ends up pranged & virtually worthless within 18months
Gone downhill from there really.
So, agreed - buy something small and safe but not something you care too much about.
Graham.

Re: Wanted - daughters first car
We had a Citroen C1 and the Pug 107 for 1st car duties and are ideal really, Gp 1 insurance £20/30 tax, cheap running costs and bolt on panels Co-manufactured with Toyota Aygo in the same factory there isn't much wrong really, just check it's had the upgraded clutch fitted if its pre-2009 as they had a problem and lasted between 5 mins and about 30k miles.
2003 2.5 SE, low miles, Sterling Grey, 108's & Eagles, no stubby here! Unmolested.

Our daughter had a C1 and our son Toyota Aygo. Both performed admirably and in fact the Aygo is still going strong now 9 years old.

Yeah, he's 16 now, 17 next year. He wants something else, like, say, a VW camper or a Series Landy. Plays bass guitar in a band, has quite a lot of stuff (in a good way) so something biggish but group 1-4 insurance would be helpful.mr wilks wrote:buzyg wrote:Can't go wrong with a Clio.

Re: Wanted - daughters first car
After loads of hours on autotrader and pistonheads and with several car viewings i finally bought my daughter a 1.2 corsa on a 53 plate with 59000 on the clock, the daft thing was it was only 3 miles away but it looks good and goes very well with a long mot. But the main thing is my daughter loves it but I suppose it will be me that puts the petrol in and gives it a wash.
