Re: Toyota Supra V8 build
Ah yes one on each bank makes lots of sense. Was for some reason thinking more along the lines of one after the other...

I was actually looking at Toyota Supras on AT (was on my wish list many, many years ago).
It this the rebuild you're aiming for

The 3.0l turbos are a great car and have been know to make insane power. Up to 1000bhp from the 3.0lMarlon wrote:I was actually looking at Toyota Supras on AT (was on my wish list many, many years ago).

But no we are doing something a bit different. 4.0l V8 transplant and a not so highly stressed engine but big power. It wont be a garage queen or a show car. So it wont be mega clean its sole purpose is to be a track/drift car.

Been following this on DW and the turbo setup etc. should all work fine.Machine monkey wrote:Yeah i should hope this ends up a little better than the other 2! The body work is about done in regards to fitting bits. It will be primed this evening or tomorrow. Then hopefully finished before the Christmas.
The twin Turbo set up is basically just each bank running a turbo. Instead of having them under the bonnet they will be in the boot. Lots of people doubt the idea and say it will have lots of lag. But with a 4.0l V8 or a 3.0l straight 6 its not like a 2.0l high pressure turbo build. And the pipe work from the boot works as an intercooler and has about the same volume a decent intercooler would have.
The ecu is a complete stand alone and we have a really well known and very well respected tuner working on that. Just so happens to be a long time friend to Chris. I shall be having many long chats with him about M54b30 tuning and what he can do.
Say hello to Steve Sadler for me, I haven't seen him in ages

Are you going to have to do much to the v8 to cope with the big hp plans you have for it ?

I hope it works well as i really fancy something similar in my z4. If i ditch the batter box and relocate that. There should be plenty of room for it. I have already got rid of the big silencer.

Urumm the simple answer is ermm no. We are planing on running it and seeing what happens!! The engines are cheap as chips and quick and easy to replace.Dunk wrote:Are you going to have to do much to the v8 to cope with the big hp plans you have for it ?

2 expensive Byron. And we wanted/Chris wanted to build something different. The car was an N/A if it had a 2j i doubt we would be doing this.Beedub wrote:2jz all day long... no V8 needed!!

Re: Toyota Supra V8 build
love a supra build! Would have loved to have gone v8 with mine but with the abundance of monaros here it works out cheaper to buy a dog of a monaro for v8 thrills rather than transplant into a supe, so going the build 2j route
