I was only looking at WBAC for an idea of what they said. Certainly not expecting a decent car for that money. Definitely not in the 'bottom feeder' camp either, lol.
I'll want something a little better presented with as much bang for my buck as I can get. Up to £10/11k ish should do it.... I hope. Not in a desperate rush and I'm sure something I think is what I want will come along.

If you’ve got patience and willing to travel and then walk away from a few then for sure there will be the right one for you out there…with a few hundred for sale at any time on AT there is no shortage…some people (me) get boxed in by specific requirements…good huntingt90ark wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 9:12 pm I was only looking at WBAC for an idea of what they said. Hi folks. My first post here as I'm looking at potentially becoming an E89 Z4 owner. I drive a 2009 Type-R FN2 as a daily and intend to keep it for its practicality but I fancy trying something different so I'm looking at a 2-seater and a car newer and faster than the Civic. I've always fancied a Cayman but they're out of my price range (around £13k) but 30i E89 came up in my searches and I'm intrigued by the 3.0l engine.
While I'm not a huge fan of black (would prefer DSB/AY), there aren't many 6-cyl 30i around and even fewer north of the border here in Scotland. I've done a fair bit of reading on here about specs etc., and this looks like a winner in terms of options and its low mileage. Nothing jumps out at me in the MOT history either:
https://www.cargurus.co.uk/Cars/invento ... 04749/NONE
I also have (not yet fully confirmed) plans to move out of the UK later this year so would be looking to sell it on relatively soon. While I'm comfortable with losing money to depreciation and so on, I definitely don't want a lemon that will cost me an arm and a leg over a few months of ownership.
I would really appreciate your thoughts on things to look out for before I go see it on Saturday.

I'm searching for a 30 and if I search nationally between £9 and £12k, AT returns only 14 cars.

If you search from 2009-2012 254 BHP then you get 26 cars
10 over 12k and 3 under 9k

It's January!
I have a convertible (not Z4) sitting in my garage waiting to sell. I won't dare put it on the market for at least another month, if not two!
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.
F31 320i. Good car.
E89 20i Now fully dried
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!
Mazda3 sold
Tatty old R56 Mini Cooper. Money pit!

The car seems well spec'd..being an auto that is sometimes pooh poohed by 'must have a knob' fraternity..
As you saw from the MOT the tyres were goosed last time around.
These N52 engines rumble on forever, and the chassis is not overly stretched so overall the car is likely not to be a disaster parts wise.
The 326M wheels are notorious for cracking especially with OE runflats fitted.
Of course things can look good in photos and then not so good in the flesh..
So to summarise..it looks OK, unlikely to depreciate any worse than any other E89 and unlikely to let go in an expensive way!
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

As has been said, you need to see these cars, especially the old, i have just washed it and its still wet trick.
Covers a lot of blemishes that only become apparent when its been dried.

If you will be leaving the country and need to sell the car quickly, I would not recommend a Z4, particularly not an older 6 pot. You will lprobably lose a lot when you come to sell it unless you have the time to be patient.

Thanks all appreciate your inputs. I’ll definitely check what tyres it’s on and the wheels. Re loss on resale, I’m well aware, guess I’ll have to see how much I enjoy this engine. I’ll report back whatever I choose to do.

An update as promised: long story short, I put a deposit on it and will hopefully be getting it by the end of this week.
No leaks from the engine that I could see. It felt very smooth and quiet, no rattles or vibrations. The tyres are unfortunately budgets but all have plenty of life in them. There are a couple of windscreen chips and some stone chips on the bonnet, all are being treated. Wheels are fine, some minimal kerbing, to be expected for a car this age. It's just passed its MOT without any advisories.
Really looking forward to having it delivered. I'll check and if needed replace the salmon relays, anything else I should be checking right off the bat? I did see viewtopic.php?t=138816 but this one is N52 with 51k miles so perhaps there are other items I should be aware of?

The N52s are generally very reliable and yours will be a relatively low mileage example…best to just get it and start using it..a few good washes and polishes should get you close enough to start seeing any faults or issues…
Decent tyres, oil n filter change, auto box oil change and you are set..for sure the relays will need changing…history shows a lack of awareness / unwillingness to spend money on things apart from mis typed number plates.

Hmmm 17 35iS on AT all quite pricey, probably as low mileage examples… still quite a bit more than I would accept for mine….. I have the G29 itch again…

G29 M40i's with 20k miles now on at £33k.... hard not to be tempted, but our 35is have probably dropped £5k in value over that last 6 months...
