Agreed but be interesting to see how the rules are tightened up next year

True, and I imagine as the victim of what happened along with the pull he has, he may leverage the possibility of walking away to make the changes as he would like them. The FIA certainly won’t want him to walk and will ideally be looking for a LH statement ahead if 2022 saying he approves of the changes.

Not certain they will ask him for a statement more Merc I think - lets see what happens although I don't think Masi will be there

Sorry, didn’t mean they would ask him for one, more hope he reacts positively when the media inevitably ask him.

Pretty sure it is not about the money. He is (correct me if wrong) the highest paid sports person in the world. It’s just a statement.
He may be this year the figures aren't available yet, but the yanks pay NBA and NFL players a fair few quid. Christian Ronaldo, Neymar and Messi could lend Lewis a few million quid without breaking sweat. Even Federer earned more last year and didn't pick up a racket

FWIW my "Now TV" sub - bought primarily to follow F1 won't get renewed. Not because of who won / didn't win - but because it ceases to be sport when arbitrary & inconsistent rules have such a significant impact on outcomes. I lost interest in F1 for years when it became a procession. Briefly it looked like it might be interesting once again - but seems not - so i'll go back to ignoring it.

You can watch the highlights on Channel 4. That way it doesn't cost anything to switch on or off; and as an added bonus you don't have to listen to Martin Brundle bleating on about how he used to race 'Sennapod'

LOL. we'll see if the free stuff is worth the time and effort - but yes for sure Brundle is an irritating ******

It is strange that team principles can have a direct influence in real time with the race director. That will be a gonner next season for sure, as will the race director who will be given the option to retire gracefully.

As for Sir Hammy, is defo the best driver as he proved in Top Gears reasonably priced car, did once respect him but not since he brought his politics into the sport. Would love to see him and Max in a head to head on Top Gear.

Did all the drivers get a chance to set a lap time?
Rob
Most of the old school drivers did before the current louts took over the show.

Ah, so we don’t know if he’s the fastest driver then :?

8. Lewis Hamilton (damp, oily), 1m44.7s
9. Jenson Button (HOT), 1m44.7s
10. The Stig (black), 1m46.0s

I don't think but I stand to be corrected, that this includes Lewis's return to the show as his first lap was in the rain and there was oil on the track from a previous star who broke the gear box.

Time as per official board.

1:44.0 – Sebastian Vettel

1:44.3 – Rubens Barrichello

1:44.4 – The Stig II

1:44.6 – Nigel Mansell

1:44.7 – Lewis Hamilton

1:44.7 – Jenson Button

1:44.9 – Jenson Button

1:46.0 – The Stig I (Perry McCarthy) (not listed on F1 board)

1:46.1 – Kimi Räikkönen

1:46.3 – Damon Hill

The 144.7 was Lewis Wet Lap time. :driving:

Lewis Hamilton 1.42.9
Mark Webber 1.43.1
Sebastian Vettel 1.44.0
Rubens Barichello 1.44.3
The Stig (ll) 1.44.4
Nigel Mansell 1.44.6
Lewis Hamilton 1.44.7 (w)
Jenson Button 1.44.7 (w)
The Stig (l) 1.46.1
Damon Hill 1.46.3
Mark Webber 1.47.1 (w)

I think he won't mention it unless asked - its in the past now and nothing he can as per Massa in 2008

He will inevitably be asked though, to the point that he (and us) will be sick of hearing about it. That’s why I think he will have a scripted “firm” statement at the beginning of 2022 which will hopefully put it to bed.

Lets hope so - with the rules changes - come on Daniel Ricciardo
