Cheap Chinese crap

I bought a cigarette lighter assembly for my 'plastic project' from a well-known supplier of parts for this type of build.
I wanted the assembly purely to plug a tyre compressor into, but an authentic cigarette lighter looks quite 'retro'.

I wired it up temporarily this evening, as I was doing other electrical stuff. So I had to test it, obviously.

The bloody thing nearly set fire to my car! Cheap Chinese crap which obviously has a sub-standard heating coil pulling far too much current. If I hadn't had gloves nearby I would have either burnt my hands, or set fire to the car. It's a good job it wasn't mounted in the dash or I could have had major problems.

I shall be having strong words with the supplier tomorrow (again). I get fed up with crap stuff, especially when it's dangerous. :x

Well you know the saying - buy cheap, buy twice!

Surely your Z3 had one anyway?

It's not easy finding decent items, though. I am not buying one from a dealer at a million pounds.
The one in the car was knackered (rusted).

Is it just the lighter part you need? I have a few of these in the cupboard from old cars that came with them and I never used them (usually replaced them with the dummy plug).

Thanks Paul, but they probably won't fit. I have checked the damaged one against the OEM and they are different diameters and lengths.
I have been refunded by the seller already; they are very good like that. Just need to have a re-think.

Have you tried a breakers yard, there might be one that would fit from another make of car. They might even have a Z3 they are breaking.

Does it need to be an older style, chrome etc?
If so, why not try other owners clubs for older cars?

All I want is a 'port' for an auxillary (for a tyre compressor), but was thinking a fag lighter would look 'retro'. I want a new item, not a used one.

Is this what you are looking for?
