I bought a cigarette lighter assembly for my 'plastic project' from a well-known supplier of parts for this type of build.
I wanted the assembly purely to plug a tyre compressor into, but an authentic cigarette lighter looks quite 'retro'.
I wired it up temporarily this evening, as I was doing other electrical stuff. So I had to test it, obviously.
The bloody thing nearly set fire to my car! Cheap Chinese crap which obviously has a sub-standard heating coil pulling far too much current. If I hadn't had gloves nearby I would have either burnt my hands, or set fire to the car. It's a good job it wasn't mounted in the dash or I could have had major problems.
I shall be having strong words with the supplier tomorrow (again). I get fed up with crap stuff, especially when it's dangerous. :x
