Dash cam

So I’m about to purchase a Nextbase 322 & hardwire it but before I do a question to those of you that have hardwired a dash cam

Does it drain the battery if you don’t drive it regularly?

I don’t drive my Zed every day & being a teacher there is the possibility that for 12 weeks of the year it will literally sit on the drive whilst I am driving the family car during school holidays. I don’t want to hardwire it if it’s going to bugger up the battery 🔋

I have mine hardwired and it does drain the battery a little but the hardwire kit that I have for my Viofo comes with a battery saver where it basically cuts the power to the camera once the battery voltage drops below a certain point. You can adjust it between 11.8V to 12.4V. This way there is no danger of completely draining the battery.

I have a guy coming round tonight to hardwire this … I hope he’s good 8)

Would people like me to photograph the process so that there can be “How to” hardwire a dash cam using the fuse box provided the guy doesn’t mind & makes a decent job of it?

I would appreciate it if it were possible and your guy is agreeable to being thrust into the limelight :D

Cheers!

Not a 322 but a 312 fitted in mine, piggy back fuse 8 and and the power goes as soon as the ignition is turned off.

Fitting is not difficult but just a bit fiddly when you get to the fusebox

Mick, have you narrowed down your choice any? I’ve had a further refusal from BMW saying as it wouldn’t be fitted as specified it would invalidate warranty so I’m still on the hunt

I think I’ll be going for the blackvue DR750x 2 ch, just waiting to see if the price will come down, as I missed out on one from Halfords when I think they had the wrong price on it and put it back up before I had chance to order, lesson learnt not to dilly dally.

Depends on the cost of the kit but it might be worth joining the British Cycling Club on base cost membership.

This give you 10% of all Halfords purchases (and other retailers) so wait for the price to drop then get an additional 10% discount. The membership lasts for a year so will cover any future purchases for next 12 months

Thanks for that Andy but the website says 10% of cycling products, so don’t know if it would be off dash cams.

I never noticed that tbh because the Halfords I use let me use it for everything. Might be worth asking your local Halfords if you could use your BC membership for all purchases
