Depends on age of car for me - Dealer service history is important on a new vehicle but once its 10 years old or so - far better to be looked after by an enthusiast.

Modern service interval is alternate years with long life oils, sealed for life Diffs and gearboxes ........

Far better to annual service and repace all the fkluids yourself

I'm with you on this

I've always done brakes, suspension and other jobs anyway so did the full service myself last year, I have to say it's one of the easiest cars I've serviced for years and even using top-spec oils and parts was a fraction of garage prices, in fact I'm a bit stumped as to why they charge so much?

At least I know what's been done (I caught both Toyota & Hyundai dealers blatantly lying having marked parts/bolts) I keep part receipts and photograph the work and really don't think it will have any effect now on values. Until last year I had the Zed garage serviced, probably over-concerned about 'stamps', but it's 19 years old, low mileage and mint so will sell on condition if I ever do get rid, but after 12 years I can't let it go TBH

An educated buyer will suss out a private seller and if the seller is knowledgeable and passionate and has kept their receipts, will know that this is a car that has been maintained well. I always prefer to buy privately for this reason.

Do all my own jobs on both the Z3 and Z4 as well as the family daily drivers with one exception being the new Ssangyong Korando that I took a service plan out on when I bought it. That gets an annual service as my retirement mileage never reaches the mileage between services, plan runs for 3 years. Over the years my toolbox has grown and with the Zeds I bought a scissor lift for the garage and got into diagnostics using a laptop, our little Zedshed Cymru group come to me to use the lift and we all muck in to do the jobs required as not all have the knowledge or skill to do some of the jobs. Given the age of our cars there is little point in getting stamps in service books unless its something special like an Alpina. The value of our cars that they would achieve if sold really dosn't warrant it. I would always look for an enthusiast owned car when buying one and always scan any prospective purchase with my diagnostics.
