Just in case someone out there likes Leffe Belgian beer, Morrisons are selling 8 x 330 ml bottles for £10 and it comes with a free Leffe Chalis.
Must say the glass itself is quality and worth the tenner. Will do some further market research this afternoon in the sunshine before dinner just to make sure though 😎

8 x 330ml bottles for a tenner? That's £2.15 a pint. Far too expensive for my pay grade. I'm more of a quantity-over-quality type TBH.

Sainsbury's are doing 15 x 440ml cans of Coors for a tenner (with nectar card). Much cheaper at 86p a pint. No fancy glass and tastes like piss but who cares?? :D

I much prefer Hoegaarden over Leffe, but my heart belongs to the German Weissbeers of Erdinger and Weihenstephaner, but please enjoy your glass

Lots of beers have reduced the ABV to cut down on the duty they have to pay. Also a lot of foreign sounding beers are actually brewed in the UK.

There are a lot of things we Brits are good at, making lager is not one of them. We used to love Corona when it was imported, now it’s lost a lot of charm in the made in UK conversion process 😂

I keep telling myself that you can beat a good glass of water. Much better for your health. But only because I am not allowed alcohol because of the the tablets I take.. :headbang:

love that stuff also but the glass is a bonus. Will now have to try and see if German beer tastes as good in a Belgian glass. The things we have to do?

Maybe we don't make good lager, but as a bitter drinker I'm not bothered!

The British beer scene is very strong. There are plenty of good styles of every beer.

They just aren't in the supermarket, or made by the massive breweries.

Most people don't care. They choose the cheapest lager on offer at the supermarket. Supermarkets know the alcohol deals draw customers to their shop.

It's probably having to make lager to supermarket price points that has caused the deterioration in quality and ABV in lagers.

I do laugh when many people say lager x for country x is better than lager x from country z.

Then look at the reaction when Madri beer was released. It instantly went everywhere and lager drinkers were raving about the new Spanish lager.

It's just another mass produced lager brewed in the UK. The story of it being Spanish made it taste better.

Me too, if I'm drinking in a pub, then a draft ale is de rigueur, unfortunately any bitter out of a can or bottle is definitely not de rigueur. So at home it's bottled beer (Menabrea or Modelo) or vodka & tonic. In Yorkshire we are very lucky with the ale we produce, Timothy Taylors Landlord being my favourite.

[ref]Pondrew[/ref], that’s only a little bit sexist, so, sorry should I only drink Pina Colada’s :poke: :P

Well Rupert Holmes did make a song about them (in the days when women drank sherry and Babycham). :D :poke:

I drink different brews depending on my mood & location.

In Belgium it is Leffe, Hoegaarden, Westmalle, Chimay, Orval, Kwak, Kriek, or Verboden Vrucht - and where a brand offers it, I tend to stick to the dubbel rather than the triple, and a blonde rather than bruin.

In Germany (and depending on region) it is Paulaner, Erdinger, Franziskaner, Benediktiner, Augustiner, Weihenstephaner, Schöfferhofer, Kulmbacher (pils), Koenig Ludwig (pils) and will happily drink either cristal, hell or dunkel versions…or sometimes all at the same time…

Madri is an interesting one. It’s brewed by Molson Coors who own the Carling brand. There is an old rumour that Madri is actually the old Carlsberg Black Label recipe after Molson Coors suffered a marketing backlash due to the under reporting the actual ABV. It ended in a court case but basically there is an allowed tolerance of 0.5% so for example a 4.6% beer could be as low as 4.1% and still be legally advertised as being 4.6% So Molson Coors brewed it deliberately to to the lowest ABV they legally could to reduce the duty they had to pay on it.
Allegedly.
