G29 - No wireless charging - cabling options/ideas please?

Hi All, New member! I've just placed an order for the G29 (due October) and due to chip shortages etc enhanced bluetooth, hotspot prep and wireless charging are off the menu. Don't really care about the first 2 but wireless charge would have been useful. I have a Samsung S10 and from what I've read the usb slot in the centre console doesn't provide enough juice to properly charge and there's restricted space in the console front phone tray that would possibly inhibit cabling. Have any G29 owners found an effective way of using a cabled charge solution please? Are wireless retrofits viable? Anything like 90 degree usb cable connectors? First world problems! Oh - and once again hello all!

Hello, welcome and congratulations on your purchase, there are some kits available to add wireless charging and I might look into these when I get mine, hopefully in September

So what have you ordered?

Black with ivory leather S20i MSport, Pro, Tech, Comfort, Driving Assistant packs! V Excited! I'll be keen to learn what your experience is! What have you got coming?

San Francisco Red M40i with cognac, tech, comfort and driving packs, ordered Monday 14th June, delivery supposed to be third week in September but not holding my breath. Me too very excited indeed :D

Purchased from BMW Boston in Lincolnshire, so will have a nice drive back :driving:

We've just got short 15cm lightening cable plugged into the USB by the wireless charging pad and it charges absolutely fine. The phone sits on the wireless charging pad and you can even shut the flap, concealing it too.

If not plugged in the battery does drain fairly quick though as the car connects via bluetooth and Wi-fi if using Apple Car Play

I had wireless charging in my last car and when you switched the engine off there was an audible as well as written warning to remove the phone whereas doing what you suggest (which is what I do now) doesn't give you any warning and I have gone off leaving my phone in the car a couple of times already

Really grateful for the responses, thank you - are you able to share the tray dimensions please so I can see how much space I have for a connector?

Ooooh very pretty! I'd wrap the M40 round a lampost so I'm playing it safe!

Just noticed your other thread, just because you have the power you don’t have to use it all the time and when you do, do it responsibly. I’m a 54 year old Yorkshire lass so if I can there’s nothing stopping you apart from you :D

Welcome and congrats on new car.

I have exactly the same problem as you. My new car hasn’t got the wireless charger and I have looked at lots of options.
From experience, the wireless charging isn’t great for long journeys as it over heats and the phone shuts down.
On long journeys I always used the cable.

I have looked at a few options on Amazon and there are quite a few wireless charging mats that could fit quite nicely. Some have a higher powered cigarette lighter adapter to give faster charging, but I’m waiting to get the car so I can decide which one to go for size wise.

the wireless charging is not really worth it in my opinion, unless you want to keep your phone warm during the winter period :)
Its barely fast enough to keep my iphone at the same level of charge as before i put it on the pad.

space-wise there is plenty of room, i keep my coyote plugged in the usb, a garage door opener, my phone and my house keys down there and can still close the tray easily :)

I can check later but my iphone7 slots in no problem
