Heated seats

You kids don't know you're born, in my day we suffered stone cold pvc seating, and that after you'd battled your way into the car in the first place in the dead of winter.
No heated seats etc, we even had to wind the windows down by hand... WIND them, BY HAND!!! just to keep clearing the door mirror, that's if you didn't slice your hand on the mirror glass. Then the bloody windscreen would freeze up, ON THE INSIDE!

You kids today... pah... pansies!!

Too right - my first 2 cars didn't even have a heated rear window!

I had a Hillman Imp in the 80’s which didn’t have a heated rear screen, i remember extending the engine coolant pipes to form a “snake” under the rear window - worked well to clear the rear screen when the engine warmed up! :)

DOOR mirror?.....rich kid.
Wing mirror pal (and only one cos the near side was an extra). And we had to rub two bits of coal together in our cardboard box to keep warm of a night, which were always freezing even in July. :|

All my Zeds have had heated seats, I only switch on when it’s bloody cold. I find that in the time it takes to feel the heat coming through the cabin has heated up enough anyway.

I don’t tend to put the top down in cold weather, maybe I should give that a try this winter. :)

The heated seats are good - although whoever uses them on #3 must have shoe leather for skin - and a pair of gloves is OK on a winter's day with the roof down, but I still miss a heated steering wheel.

:driving: :D
My seat is switched on and as soon as I feel it getting warm it's switched off again, whereas my wife will drive around with the seat heat on full for the entire trip!! :fuelfire:

Can't fault you regarding the heated steering wheel, lovely 8) especially as I've just retrofitted mine

Never had a heated steering but would love one. Probably out of reach financially.

I want to do a retrofit but can't find a heated steering wheel to buy and replace my current one.

I hope we're going to get a tutorial on this! :D
Certainly are  Nine new videos have been filmed and that's one of them, just got to do post production on them.

I envy you. How difficult was it to retrofit?
On the whole, very easy as it's a straightforward job to do with no coding required.
Finding some of the parts though is not so easy, or cheap.
Alas i got all the parts and lined up for buying an original E89 (manual) steering wheel, even agreed a price, but never heard from him or seen him on-line since :? So I've actually fitted one from an E93, it was very used and abused but it was absolutely dirt cheap, so I've refurbished it and I really like it, oh and it's nice and toasty

To return the thread to heated seats somewhat - does anyone know how to remove the headrest from the MSport seats so I can start “skinning” the seats please? :D

Thanks Dave - so essentially its "just" pull upwards in a jerking motion. I wanted to be sure there was no clip or bolt I needed to undo first. I'll give it a go and will report on progress :)

Cheers

I can confirm that grabbing the headrest firmly and one or two quick tugs and off it pops! 👍

Thanks

So not as dangerous as removing the Gear Knob from an E85 which could damage the man vegetables!

I have them and they are great, never need more than setting 1 though. Heated steering wheel is also brilliant sooooo toasty and really fast warm up..

My seats and steering wheel is set to come on automatically if the outside temp drops below 10C. Was intending to lower that to 5C but it came on again the other day and I thought, Nah! leave things as they are.
