How do you play music in your car.? G29 specific.

I used my old iPod Classic via USB on my previous Z4 E89 without any issue & could access the many playlists & albums & artists options etc.. perfectly.

I've been trying to get it to work on my recently purchased 2021 G29 & the car finds it & can play songs from it, but I cannot find any way to get the playlists to show, which is the main way I listen to the music depending what mood I'm in.

Any ideas? :headbang:
I had another look today & still can't find any way to get the playlists showing from my iPod Classic. :x

Yes regarding the classic ipod.
Ive been in the same position.
I was told that the car,s software is not compatible with the old ipods, so i had to get the most up to date ipod touch i could. I currently have a gen6 touch, but even that is somewhat problematic..I think the newest touch is the gen 7 after that apple stopped making them... :( :(
I have been looking at playing my music from other sources, but am not a fan of the steaming services, as you generally have to subscribe.. Why should i continually have to pay for music which i already own, cd,s and downloaded .?? :headbang: :headbang:

If you do manage to find a way to play your playlists etc from your ipod, be it a classic or ,, newer touch,,, PLEASE let me know...

So does this gen6 iPod Touch allow you to see & use the playlists easily on the car touchscreen?

USB memory stick with all my music (around 1600 songs). To place the stick and be able to close the cover on the tunnel I had to buy a usb extension cord, works perfectly.

Suspect it’s the best option but where to get all those tracks downloaded onto a USB stick free

I have Spotify on my iPhone, as soon as I get in the car it starts playing whatever playlist was last playing, (be that in the car or house).
If I want to change it I press the Car Play symbol on the touch screen and adjust accordingly
All works great for me

I do notice a difference in sound quality between Android Auto and the built in Spotify app, the built in Spotify app is far better (but at a cost). I've moaned before about the Harman Kardon sound quality, strange thing is its seems to improve when the roof is down :o

So its not without its issues. For some reason the car wont load , or find all the tracks on the ipod.
I used the gen 6 ipod in a 2016 BMW X5 with no issues, all the tracks showed up on the cars screen, but when i plug it into my later 2019 Z4 and my latest 23 plate X5 it doesnt show or play all the tracks, ,, most infuriating... :headbang: :headbang:
Im just putting it down to the ipods being older operating software and the BMW,s being newer and dont talk to each other correctly...
I have been trying to get a gen 7 touch, to see if that helps, but they dont come up very often second hand...

I am contemplating transferring all my music to a usb stick and use the onboard usb port... BUT thats going to take time....

The big problem with usb based so.itioms is that it’s normslly hard / difficult to transcribe playlists due to the way the car’s multimedia system reads files.

Some years ago I put all my music cds onto my laptop and over the years have from time to time purchased music from amazon. I'm not sure you could legally download music for free (that was what napster got in trouble for)? Perhaps it's different in UK?
