Kop Hill Climb 14-15th September

Back in the sunshine
Is anyone going to the Kop Hill Climb in Princes Risborough this weekend? We’re visiting my parents who live not far away and my 18 months old son is obsessed with cars, so I expect we’ll be there both days.

https://kophillclimb.org.uk/

I lived close to Risborough for over 40 years, worked in Risborough for 2 of them, had a girlfriend who lived in Risborough for a while and had never heard of this until now. It's been running for over 100 years, apparently.
Too far away now! Typical.

How close to Risborough - my parents live fewer than five miles away and my sister is walking distance from Kop Hill.
My BIL knows just about everyone in PR and has lived there all of his life, so it’s quite likely you encountered each other in your 40 years.
The original Hill Climb stopped about 100 years ago and was then restarted about 15 years ago, so you might have missed it when you were a local.

I went a couple of years ago and enjoyed a good day out.

I might go on Sunday with my mate, but we're torn between this and the Cookham Dene Gravity Grand Prix. :?

I grew up in Beaconsfield and my parents lived there until ten years ago, but I hadn’t heard of the Gravity GP (like Pondrew and Kop Hill, I suppose). It looks interesting - I might have to spend a day at each.

I've been to the Gravity GP a few times and it's a bit of fun, usually with a crash or two, plus the proceeds go to the Air Ambulance. There's a pub near the top of the course and another at the bottom that sometimes has a live band after the event. :)

My mate will probably go to the Kop tomorrow as he knows someone who is competing just the one day. Depending when I leave the Ace Cafe I might go straight there.

I grew up in Lane End (the other direction to you), then lived in Stokenchurch (around 100 yards from where Fred lives; firebobby) but didn't know him until on here.
I did my motorcycle training in Beaconsfield at 16 (Mum insisted on it way before CBT was invented) in 1984.
I also have friends in Cookham Dean! They are my only 'rich friends'. :)
My first proper girlfriend lived in Beaconsfield (new town not the posh bit).

Moved away in 2009 to a much cheaper part of the Country, but will always be a Bucksy Boy.

I hadn’t realised there’s a Zed meet at the Ace Cafe tomorrow. It rather limits you to Sunday for either Kop Hill or Cookham.
The timetable for the hill climb looks very similar on both days, so I might well split my weekend between the two.
I’m not sure my kids would want to go to the Ace Cafe Zed meet in an RS4!

My parents live in Bledlow Ridge and I had a girlfriend in Cadmore End. In fact, I was in Stokenchurch only yesterday and enjoyed a blast up Aston Hill in the rain :driving:

Do you mean the A40? That is now known as Aston Hill but apparently it isn't the Aston Hill from Aston Martin. The parallel hill, now called Kingston Hill (which comes out in Kingston Blount). was the hill that Mr Martin used to test his cars.

I have no idea if the above is true; it could just be local folklore, but that is what I was told many years ago. Bloke in the pub said, so it must be true!

Yep, the A40.
I thought the Aston Hill of Aston Martin fame was in Aston Clinton. It Asta be true, there’s a plaque there that says it is!

Bloke down the pub disagrees. Who am I to argue?

You didn't know about the Ace Cafe meeting!!
I've been posting about it for most of the year and it's been running for about 5 years :poke: 😉
Feel free to pop in, even in an old Audi, to meet a few of us.

I know Pondrew's brother if memory serves me well, we were in the Territorial army together.
I grew up around High Wycombe, mostly Booker.
I moved to Stokenchurch nearly 40 years ago.

That sounds like the beginning of a pub fight…

I’ve had my head in the (Australian) sand, and haven’t checked the meetings section much because most people seem reluctant to travel to Sydney for lunch!
