New bluetooth option?

Don't know if this has been mentioned before, but just seen a new option for bluetooth music/phone/coding option (BlueBus) on another forum.

https://www.bluebus.dev

https://nam3forum.com/forums/forum/main-forum/e46-2001-2006/1227-bluebus-a-fully-integrated-a2dp-bluetooth-solution

I guess in out case it just replaces the connection to the multi-changer (which is a bit more difficult to access than an e39 or e46), but might give our cars' audio some more life.

Looks like a very nice bit of kit - support for MFSW, original microphone, DSP and non DSP cars etc (not sure if there are 2 connector options).

Fair chunk of money though and I guess will have P&P and import charges on top of the $235.

Not having great knowledge of these things but does it offer a significant advantage over something like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bluetooth-Musik-Adapter-BMW-E46-E39-E38-E53-E85-fur-3-6-CD-Wechsleranschluss/253153228002?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908131621%26meid%3D27913ae3ee5b44dcbd396d3ae18b260e%26pid%3D100678%26rk%3D6%26rkt%3D15%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D184279263952%26itm%3D253153228002%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057&_trksid=p2380057.c100678.m3607&_trkparms=pageci%3A946294b9-9434-11ea-9da9-92b47ec70f55%7Cparentrq%3A08418eda1720a4e869f9208cffde537e%7Ciid%3A1 which is £36

My basic German says that the ebay one doesn't support telephone functions, and has to have another kit (at about the same price) for DSP systems.

It doesn't mention any screen interface (so won't do the simple coding functions or hands-free Siri/Google Assistant), has no technical/customer support, no firmware updates, and isn't open source hardware & firmware...oh, and it doesn't have a case!

But, in theory, even if you had to pay for 3 separate units that you could interface with each other to add those other functions (for audio/telephone/dsp) then it'd still be less than £100.

That one linked above is the one I had installed on my E85.

It works well enough, did get infrequent disconnections, would drop the connection if silent for a while (e.g. if using Google maps and on the motorway, so a long pause between instructions) - execellent value for money though.

The DSP debate is not clear cut and depends on what connections you have in the car (which, I believe, depends on the year of the car - never did fully get to the bottom of the definitive answer). My 2003 for example, was DSP equipped, but had the standard connector which is compatible with that cheaper product linked above - so was plug and play. The later (?) DSP equiped cars used a co-ax connection I believe.

Just installed this;

Need a 3.5mm extension for the mic but tidy install.

Connected to back of cd changed, mic cable connects through to cabin from air vent.

Are you Glasgow, Rizel23 - that plane has been flying about for a few days.

If you aren't - it must be a different one :D

Anyone tried one of these -

Hi guys. I was looking at the £35 option noted above. My car has a single cd slot on the dash rather than a cd changer. Would it work ? I'm not really bothered about radio, I used to connect my iPhone via the jack socket, but now the volume turns down when I connect, despite having that function turned off on my phone?
Thanks in advance, Neil

Might be worth checking your VIN to see what options are installed on the car - pretty sure though given yours is a 2006 model, if you have no physical CD changer sitting in the center arm rest bit then you won't find the cable sitting around unused in the boot area.

Doesn't necessarily mean you couldn't use the adapter though - you'd just need to wire in whatever is missing to the quadlock connector at the rear of the head unit - would make sense to mount the bluetooth unit there too.

Hi, I have these connections in the boot and am interested in the £35 eBay plug and play module.

I don’t have a microphone fitted from factory as I have checked behind the interior light, can I install one here? If so what do I need and where does the connection need to run back to?

Just in case anyone is looking to do this upgrade and want the hand free mic option don’t purchase the one in the link provided earlier. Spoke to the seller and there are two versions, one can take the mic which is included and the other is purely Bluetooth streaming. It is out of stock at the moment but the one you want is as per this link: https://www.ebay.de/itm/254073161800

Can I ask, who do you use for vin decoding ? I did a search on here and came up with rubmw, but the site didn't seem to work !

It can be a pain to find - mine was literally just sitting there but some people get very frustrated trying to find the damn thing 😂
