New Carbon Interior - Pic Heavy!

Well I managed to get my interior wrapped in Carbon Fibre [textured] 3M Di-Noc material today.

First let me just say that I would only do this job if you REALLY dislike your interior decor - it is a right old pain to do. Most of the interior has to come out and an unbelievable amount of screws! I can see why BMWs are so well built. I also bashed myself in the nose and eye removing the gear knob - which resulted in a shiner!

In total I wrapped the following:

Dash panel
Switch panel
Centre trim [large section]
Gear surround
Slide panel
Centre trim [smaller section]
Door handles

I was going to wrap the steering wheel sections and the flip lid but time was getting on and I thought it might be overkill! Plus I didnt want the HU and vents to stand out, so other trim co-ordinated with them.

Its important to implement the following practices; making sure you do not over stretch the material so that it will not try to retain its original shape when heated again, performing strategic cuts to stop webbing and releasing pressure, only having thin sections of material behind the trim to relieve pressure, etc, etc! Like I said this is not easy job!

If your going to attempt this then make sure you wash each panel with a concentrated washing up liquid, and when dry wipe with Methelated sprits to ensure that your finish will be a long lasting one.

I took a load of pics because I know a few of you are interested in the quality of the material. Oh and there is no gear knob in the pics because my ZHP will be here tomorrow for installation.

What do you think?

Not our of the woods yet - you still have to dismantle yet more trim!

There are so many screws holding the trim in place it makes me wonder why!?

Thank god - all removed, cleaned, and prepped!

That's amazing - You've done a really good quality job there.

Great that you took a great deal of photos too for the record

Awesome job! I can't imagine how many scraped knuckles you have after that. The weave on that carbon looks great too.

See you've done it before, as all the weave is going the right way

Much better, as wood trim is not the best :D Im lucky as ive got the aluminium trim which i like :D

Absolutely spot on with the corners etc. Took me ages to do parts on my e46!

Thanks.

Looks amazing !!

Did you wrap it yourself ? and Is it blue or is that just in the pics?

Yep - wrapped it today, the flash makes it looks blue but in real life it is as black as it comes.

Looks good,better than the wood,imo
(wood has its place,but not in a sportscar/fine in a 3/5/7ser,etc tho)

good job

Wow excellent job :D

Underneath my handbrake lever and ash tray cover are showing signs of wear... Im guessing the one under the handbrake is a complete nightmare to remove?!

Excellent work... great having the pictures for reference - a lot of people ask about dash and centre console removal, will really help

i resisted commenting on your timber dash when you first posted (when you first got the car) as i didnt want to be negative, however it did look like a boat, and im amazed somebody ticked that box when buying new.

It looks amazing now though ! well done.

Looks great! Far better than that wood! Perhaps you could help me with something, i badly scratched the plastic tray you see in pic http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v718/slinkyu2/Z4/Carbon05.jpg however I have no idea in what order to remove everything and where the screws are holding it in. I have a replacment sat here ready! The aluminium piece that sits over it (wood in your case) seems to have no screws etc

Thanks

Shane.

Stunning work,

Not an easy job i understand.... when you doing the bonnet then?

Cheers
