Problem: Heater/AirCon/Heated Rear Screen not working (Transport mode?)

Background: About 12 months ago I had a failing battery, so after a being caught out a couple of times I swapped it for a new one from ECP, but noticed after connecting it the car started suffering some wired symptoms.
Heated Rear window button (not working)
Air-conditioning (not working)
Heater blower control (not working)
Air-recirculation button (not working)

Just got my car back from the Dealers after having a Inspection 2, and feel a bit disheartened by their lack of help. I pointed these issues out upon dropping the car off, under the impression Inspection 2 involved a full diagnostics?

After some previous researching I was under the impression the symptoms the cars suffering is a common issue under the circumstances caused by a low powered or flat battery, causing the car to go into “Transport Mode”, this is my thoughts from what I have read.

So when I came to pick up the car I was a bit miffed that the service agent (salesman), who confirmed Aircon button wasn’t working (thanks, I knew that), dismissed/brushed over “Transport mode” and wanted to first, put the car in for a 1 hour diagnostics, which he said would be a good start, but might lead to lots of further investigation.

Eventually I am going to have to take it there (or a alternative) and pay for a diagnostic, but I want to know are my cars symptom’s definatly ‘Transport mode’? Does ‘Transport mode’ actually exist? Has anyone here had the same and what was there approach to BMW?

If you put where abouts you are an how far your willing to travel I'm confident on this forum you can get this resolved before the end of the weekend , an probably only cost you some beer tokens

Hey, thanks for the kind offer. :-)
I work in central London though, and don't normally get home until after 7PM. Are you around in the evening or just the day-time?

So I'm actually driving from Scotland down so probably be down around that time, I could possibly swing by en route to Watford, it's a quick job so wouldn't be around long I did mine in just under 10 mins, I can confirm tomorrow if that could work for you.

That would be awesome if you can?
Does it sound like the symptoms are 'Transport mode' ?

This is my face right now:

Met Andy 'AndyD33' and with in about 5min he had the 'Transport mode' deleted, and every things working fine and back to normal, FINALLY.
Cheer's Andy, did me a huge favour. :driving:

Its sealed and confirmed my suspicions that the 'BMW Service agents' (Sales men) at the dealership are just trying to rob us of as much workshop time (and money) as possible. Last year when this problem first happened everyone that recognised the symptoms said its 'Transport mode', but BMW denied all knowledge of, tried to make me look daft by bringing it up and mentioning it, and i believe they would have know this was the issues from the recent service, but wanted me to fork out £100 to "Investigate" with now firm guarantee of finding a solution.

Sorry to hijack this but I have the same problem with my 2008 2.0 Z4 - I’m assuming it’s in transport mode.
I’m near LINCOLN if anyone could please help me out - thanks

What is transport mode and how to you delete it? Might be helpful to know

As far as i know it only effects e85’s & is something the dealer should really delete before selling the car from new.
It’s to stop the car battery from deteriorating as quickly while the car waits to be sold, the software disables most of the electrics if the battery voltage falls below a certain threshold.
The e89 seems to have its own electrical issue with the ebrake going awol with low battery voltage (early cars at least)

Ah ok. I’m having issues with my rear window heater not seeming to work v well... and other electrical things. Thought this might be the answer.

Hi Andy,

Appreciate this is a super old post so I’m not holding out too much hope.

Are you still around the Watford area. My Z4 just started having the same symptoms and I’d need the transport mode deleting.

Cheers,
Jack
