Radio

Since I’ve owned my e89 the radio only works on fm. I’ve tried different bmw radios and still the same problem. I thought the diversity module had got wet in the boot so just changed that and still the same. I am guessing it’s the antenna. I can get the aerial off but cannot find a way to get the base removed. I’ve had all the trim out of the boot and taken off the wheel arch liner but cannot see the base of the antenna. Anyone got any ideas or know how to get to it? Cheers.

Most of the fm signals from other aerials that the diversity module controls ..

The whippy does FM not AM…therefore maybe a waste of time attacking the whippy? :tumbleweed:

What modes do you think you are missing?

Much longer aerial behind bumper. Diagrams just say fm and am?
Long wire from the left.

Does anyone know what the small holder is in the centre, black plastic?

That centre holder is for one of the 7 comfort access aerials..if fitted..

Other non US aerials are DAB

That diagram, from the manual, is incorrect, as far as Europe is concerned anyway. No/7 states "FM antenna 1, AM antenna, telephone antenna 1", the only antennas that in that location is the DAB L Band and the GPS receiver for the Sat-Nav.
I believe the AM one uses the wire that runs behind the rear bumper, and this then comes into the Diversity unit at the bottom (purple plug), I'd be looking at this plug/wires

Looking at TIS it appears there’s no formal AM aerial…the whippy is referred to as one of the three FM aerials and there’s no signal path shown purely for AM?

You're dead right.
Looking at the location though there is another input that's not on the wiring diagram. I need to check my other diagram to see if that has it. EDIT - Just checked, there is still no AM antenna listed, only 3 FM ones.
