Range Rover Evoque driven!

Out for the day on a course yesterday and had some time to kill in the afternoon and I noticed a local Land Rover dealer had a sign saying the Evoque had landed!
Went and had a look round. I think it's a striking car in the metal. They had 4 outside and the best colour was still the white with black roof.
Had a chat about them to the salesman and he asked if I wanted a test drive. I said I wasn't from around here and he said have I got time to take one out now! OK then!
Took out the 4x4 2ltr 240BHP petrol with the auto/paddle shift and the Dynamic pack.
I was impressed!
Very comfortable drive and with the sports button and dynamic control engaged (tightens the steering and suspension and sharpens the throttle) it is quite a sporty ride and handles very well! Goes well too for a 2ltr!
Touch screen sat nav and 850w audio system, reverse camera, keyless entry and start.
Great interior touch. The speedo and rev counter dials have LED illuminated MPH markers that are white. When the full sport mode is engaged they glow a menacing red!! That was a sales feature in itself! :P

The model I drove comes in around £43,000. Not cheap! It's on my list as a possible in the near future though when the demo models come up for sale! 6 month waiting list at the moment for new!

Actually there is a bit of a design fault with the 2 door (3 door with the hatch). Its the rear access! The seat folds as normal, but you have to move the seat forwards for people to get in. To do this with the electric seats there is a button on the backrest. Press it and the seat moves right forward, press again and it moves back to where it was. Problem is the time it takes to move!! Takes ages!! The salesman pointed this out to me. He said "Imagine being stood in the rain waiting to get into the rear seats! With the speed of that seat you'd get soaked!!" If you need to use the backs seats regularly, get the 4 door (5 door with hatch)!

Sat in several over the weekend .... 3 door is almost impossible to get out of the back of and the time the seat takes to come forward is un real. 5 door if you ever want to put more than a harvey nicks bag on the rear seat.

Finish is very nice ... very much a Range Rover in terms of interior.

Forum is good too ... http://babyrr.com/forum/

My choice would be a Pure as at 30k it seems reasonable value the others at high 30's- low 40's are in 1 year old RRS money - and i know which I'd prefer.

Looks like an extra from Star Wars :-)

I admire LR's courage to throw it right out there in terms of styling.

Hopefully not style over substance...

BMW E92 has got the same stupid arrangement for the back seat, that you have press the electric button on the front seat to move them and get someone in or out!

It does come across looks wise a lot better in the metal than pictures. Even the salesman admitted it can be a Marmite car. His wife hated it when he took it home! Personally I really like it and always have since the concept car came out! :D
My wife wants me to sell my Z4 for one!! Now!! :o

Now, new or old shape, I just don't like the X3! :|

Evoque is bit like X6, having a saloon/coupe shape for SUV. X3/X5 have more coventional off-roader look. Purely based on the look, I have BMW X6 :) . But I know Evoque has better off-road ability.

Seriously considering one of these 4 door 4 wheel drive for the dogs and the shooting. Also for missus getting to work in winter as looks like another cold one on the way. Although looked at a couple of 3k Suzuki vitaras last week as winter snotters.
Keep Z, get Evoque. Sell Z get Evoque. Keep Z get snotter. Unsure.
If keep Z and get Evoque then one is gonnae sit as third car and not get used. So either sell Z get Evoque or keep Z get snotter.

Not convinced personally - but then i generally don't like these chelsea tractors!

Rear visibility looks rather compromised too.

Not for me thanks!
