Jasper's wires were removed on Friday 20th December
Jasper is home without any wires and about 95% healed, physically. Mentally, might take a bit longer but we'll make sure he's fine.
Wires were removed without any problems, leaving Jasper with only a small wound on his chin which will heal over the next few days.
When we got home, he checked the house to make sure everything was as it should be. We fed him since he hadn't eaten since the previous night because of the anaesthetic. He devoured a tin of applaws with chunks. The first time he's had non-pureed food since late October. Another few weeks till he's allowed biscuits though.
Then he went to his current favourite toy - a large string mouse and lay rubbing against it for a while. Then he jumped onto his favourite spot - the footstool. From there, we were treated to a load of vigorous head rubs and nudges along with lots of purrs. He's definitely feeling good and happy to be home.
It's so good to have him home and have no more visits to the vet or hospital scheduled. The hospital staff loved him - I think it's sympathy because he only has one eye and it makes him quite memorable.
I asked for Jasper's wires as a memento and the hospital duly obliged. The small wires at the bottom of the photo were around his bottom jaw I think, and removed through the small hole at the tip of his chin. No stitches needed. The top one was, I think, wrapped around his teeth like braces because there were no obvious incisions or stitches.
He was outside over the weekend. Bit of exploring and looking around from the driveway. Very nervous and jumpy as you can see from the sloping back and tail down. He then ran across the drive, and ran up the tree and had a look around. He's up that tree so often that I built platforms for him to relax on and in summer he sleeps out there overnight. He's very familiar with it. He then jumped down and ran around to the back garden, dug a hole, did a pee, then sprinted across and jumped up the 6ft fence. I grabbed a photo of him with lots of branches between me and him so it's a bit hazy but I quite like the photo so included it here. Quite an adventure for him and his heart was racing when he came back in...I think he was nervous and and bit anxious...but loved it.
He's more comfortable round the back where it's enclosed and private so he slows down more and and is more relaxed.
So good to have him home and healed, even if he is a bit more nervous outside. It'll take time to get his confidence back.
