Rear Light Facelift Update Cheap How to

Interested to see how you get on, no harm in trying to make it fit but any modification to the existing bumper either cutting it or heating it up to round the edge will then need repainting. You could touch it up and blend the paint which may look acceptable if done right but not 100%. My thoughts were if your having it repainted thats at least £200 and if your spending £200 you may as well spend another £70 on a facelift bumper thats the correct shape. Def worth giving it a try though. My facelift rear bumper needs repainting as the shop that did it 10 years ago clearly didn't do a great job and the paint has these tiny bubbles everywhere. As it is facelift sterling grey doesn't exist in that shape otherwise would have just found another sterling grey rear bumper and save the cost. :)

The first thing you will notice after doing it is the car looks wider with the new lights , especially at night :D

£70? Where can I find one for £70? At that price it's a no-brainer but I'm not so sure I'd find one for that price in Germany.. Everything seems to be a lot more expensive here. I'll see what the folks over at ZRoadster say.

Thats exactly what I want :evil:

I bought my rear one of eBay for £70 and my front one recently for £80 in the right colour! Seems to be the going rate second hand with scratches or blemishes , since you need to paint anyway as the colour for pre facelift is sterling grey and I think the colour for facelift is silver grey which is a bit lighter so won't match.

looks like its £95 cheapest in Germany:

images now fixed... hopefully for good. Moved them to another host!

Speaking of the rear bumper the paint has now started flaking during jet washing my guess is they did a really crap job compared to a panel I had done at bmw which is like the rest of the car. I wonder if BMW would respray the rear bumper even though its for a newer Z4 and not a standard part? Either that or can anyone recommend a body shop near sheffield where 10+ years on the paint is as good as the rest of the car? :rofl:

Update

Instead of taking power from the license plate lights, it is better to run cable from the reverse pin to the right side to the left side, and from the left fog light pin to the right side and code xon ncs expert as follows:

Coding with NCS, for 12v and 6v.

PWM_ANSTEUERUNG_SL_RE_HI = Change to 01 (Default 02)
PWM_ANSTEUERUNG_SL_LI_HI = Change to 01 (Default 02)
BREMSLICHT_ALS_STANDLICHT = Change to Not Active (Default Active)

For no errors:
CC_STANDLICHT_RECHTS nicht_aktiv Check Control (CC) - parking lights - right
CC_STANDLICHT_LINKS nicht_aktiv Check Control (CC) - parking lights - left
WARMUEBERWACHUNG_SL_LI nicht_aktiv Hot monitoring - parking lights – left
WARMUEBERWACHUNG_SL_RE nicht_aktiv Hot monitoring - parking lights – right
KALTUEBERWACHUNG_SL_LI nicht_aktiv Cold monitoring - parking lights – left
KALTUEBERWACHUNG_SL_RE nicht_aktiv Cold monitoring - parking lights – right
KALTUEBERWACHUNG_FL nicht_aktiv Cold monitoring - high beams
WARMUEBERWACHUNG_FL nicht_aktiv Hot monitoring - high beams

that way it remains OEM.

Thread resurrection...

Thank you all who posted with information and advice - this was a retrofit that was actually much less challenging to do than I had originally expected.
