Rear Speaker replacements

Hi All

I have the standard 6 speaker set up and have recently updated the front speakers to a 3-way Hertz component set up. It’s a vast improvement  3821C90C-FAD3-4265-A20E-CA0C74197992.jpeg

I still have the standard rear speakers in situe.

I have a plan to improve the rear with 2x 6.5” subs driven by an amplifier using the rear channel (taken directly from the back of the stereo to avoid any online crossovers that may be between stereo and rear speakers). This should give me enough bass to be more than happy.

However, I DO enjoy being surrounded by music rather than having a front focused Sound stage as such. I find it also helps when the roof is down.

So, I want to upgrade the rear 4” speakers at the same time.

What are people’s thoughts about going with a coax speaker to provide additional tweeters vs standard replacement mids?

Is there a reason to go without the rear built-in tweeter?

All opinions welcome!

There isn't a lot of space to fit a speaker with an integrated tweeter, i have, but it does press slightly on the plastic cover.. i have a fear i'm going to put the seat all the way back at some point and i'll hear a crack.

Ok - so worth checking clearance.

How do you find the sound? An improvement worth pursuing?

the stock speakers are terrible so it doesn't take much to make it sound better, i'm happy with the BAM speakers that went in (other than the profile) - I need to sort out the lack of bass next and will probably fit a cheapish low profile powered sub in the boot.

There is no crossover to the rear speakers so you can pick up the signal directly from the wiring that goes to them behind the boot carpet. It’s very difficult to access the rear speakers as you have to strip virtually the whole rear interior out. Easier just to cut the wires to them and install new components in the cubby holes. This is where the subs are in the higher audio option. Dead easy to fit an amp in boot to drive them from the speaker level input.

Is there definitely no inline frequency blocking? I only ask as I’ve seen it referred to in a few threads on here.

Otherwise tapping into the wires already back there would definitely be my preference!

He's wrong. I have run a frequency sweep from 20Hz-20Khz through the aux in and looked at the response on the rear speaker wires across a 4ohm load with an oscilloscope. There is no attenuation anywhere.

Awesome news! Thanks for confirming
