My first mod was a "iphone/cupholder-delete" last fall..

"Genuine BMW Oddments Tray + Insert mat Z4 Roadster E89 51169174845 51169181218" for $41 USD new on ebay.
Money well spent. The cupholders were useless and my phone couldn't sit flat.

Unfortunately the price for this tray seems to have tripled (Uk prices anyway) and eBay sellers are typically charging almost £150! Strangely BMW.click is charging only £23.33, their shipping is about double that so I’d be looking at a total of around £70 and then there’s the mat to add in but I am tempted…

Im still after a mat to cover where the phone cradle was -51169150224

I ordered one from LLLParts for £20 in June and they cancelled the order saying no longer available. Just checked their site and they are still advertising them but now double the price

Its not something that I really need, just nice to have. But £40 for a bit of rubber, that you cant really see is too much

Have you tried a tool shop? They supply similar rubber mats that line the drawers in a tool chest. Thin rubber you could cut to size.

Not strictly true, if removed then the 12v positive and negative can be used to power something like a USB socket for phone charging etc (you'd have to use a step-down transformer**, which a readily available). The wires are .75 and fed directly from fuse 13 which is a 10amp fuse, so no problems here.

Also there are two types of Snap-In cradle (Eject Box), there's the standard Eject box, which just has power and antenna for charging the phone and boosting the signal. And there's the MEDIA Eject Box, which has the addition of a data/media connection to either the MULF (via the USB Hub) or directly to a Combox. I think this is what you are referring to in that most posts on forums say it can't be used for anything else, although I've read where someone has got it working but never said how, so I'm still investigating this at the moment.

It’s a bit late now but I looked at it and gave up..apart from usb charging which is easier with a unit in the cigar lighter I couldn’t see any use..pity it was a neat installation for the earlier iPhones..

Yeah another USB just for charging probably wouldn't be much use really. But if you could get the blue socket working on the Combox then you'd have another music input. But as is stated, I've only found the one post stating that they got it working, but with no details other than them stating that they had an adaptor for the USB port from the proper blue cable.
But, TBH you've already got a 20gb hdd (can be updated/upgraded), you can use a 64gb memory stick which would house tons of music, you can stream from your phone (if you have the Combox) and if you fitted an mmi box then the worlds your limit... so the real question is, why would you bother with another USB port?
My answer would be, because I can (could, may, might, might not, probably can't )

I doubt I'll be spending any great amount of time on this one, if I do come across the answer then I'll certainly report back, but, as per my answer above anyway, I've got plenty of options already

Guys, thanks for the info, but the bit about removing the console… I have taken the center bolt out, all the nuts, torx screws and disconnected everything I can…

But there are still cables at the rear of the console for the aux in and usb.
How do you disconnect these things?

You unplug them..the usb is a tricky critter

You unplug them..the usb is a tricky critter

As mentioned, unplug them. Some have a short section to an intermediate plug connection for both the AUX and USB (about 8" long, as per photo), but if not then unplug them from the rear of the socket.

How on earth did you score such a price? How long ago did you buy it? I'm going to have to spend over $250 to get the tray and mat from the Baltics.
