securing loose items in the boot / trunk

I haven't posted in ages, but the Z4 is still running like new, at 109,000 miles and counting. :driving:

I'd like to "lock down" my battery jumper pack (aka, 5 in 1 power pack, which includes a tire inflator/pump, lights, etc). It weighs about 19 pounds and often falls over in the trunk when i brake or accelerate.

In my SUV, there are multiple tie down points for gear. How do you secure your gear in the boot/trunk?

I nicked some awesome shallow deutchepost plastic mail boxes years ago from outside a sorting office. They were empty ofc but i thought i'd 'liberate' them from a life of boredom and monotony lol.
A couple of velcro strips on the bottom and theyre just perfect for bits n pieces....

Nice! I'm sure that's a conversation starter too, for anyone looking into your trunk. :thumbsup:

Unfortunately, this power pack is too large to fit in one of those, and I don't think there are enough contact points on its bottom for attaching velcro. I guess I could give the velcro idea a try, as it might help a bit.

Any other ideas?
 
I was annoyed by the lack of tie down points in the boot of my coupe but manage to bodge together a way to use a boot net.
I bought a couple of these http://www.mudstuff.co.uk/products/storage-nets-13/additional-fixings/floor-loop-anchor-point.html and attached them to the carpeted walls near the bulkead at the back of the boot.
Then used one of these http://www.mudstuff.co.uk/products/storage-nets-13/additional-fixings/karabiner-hook.html on each corner of a cargo net I had in the garage.

I clip the front corners around the existing netting at either side of the boot and the rear ones to the fixings I attached.
Ill stick up a pick if you like
 
i had spare cargo net in mine i took out had metal attachemnts i assume it was for Z4 will dig it out

That's quite a lot of weight to be humping round all the time, isn't it? :o

I was a Boy Scout as a kid, so I guess I'm just "being prepared." If you've ever been stuck due to a flat tire, or weak battery, and would rather not wait 2 hours for roadside assistance (assuming you can get a cell signal where you break down), it's a good option.
 
To store stuff in my boot and to stop it sliding around I use a box from a previous Fiat 500. It has Velcro along the bottom that allows it to grip to the floor carpet and dividers that can be adjusted to size depending on what is being carried. I know BMW do make something similar but not sure if it has Velcro on the bottom.

Admittedly the net solution mentioned earlier in the post may be stronger for heavier items
 
I don't bother - nothing ever stays where I put it in my Z4, apart from the litre of oil that is in a bag with Velcro that sticks to the carpet at the back of the boot. :lol:

So if anything needs to stay put, I just don't use the Z4. :thumbsup:

Product looks useful, but I disagree with your "cheapo & cheerful" comment. I checked prices and think they are horrendous for a bit of plastic with Velcro attached. I might make my own by attaching some Velcro to Tupperware or Rubbermaid bins.
