What have you done to your car today?

a this was my thinking. Plus up here in the highlands there has already been a couple of occasions where Iv needed to quickly raise the roof at traffic lights lol

That reminds me of the Z4 National in the Lake District last year. As we entered a town it started to rain a bit, and the lead car slowed down to let someone out of a filling station so he'd be going slow enough to put his roof up!

With those covers fitted you'd have to stop, remove them and potentially get quite wet.

Yea that’s it. They look good though but a pain. The one I purchased still has run flats on them. I need to get them changed asap.

Looks like the 3M kit works well!
Thanks. The pictures don’t do it justice. Hard to get the right angle to show the best and worst.

What’s good about the 3M kit is the fact it’s sandpaper you are using. You then use some rubbing compound in the last step.
What’s bad about it is that there is no UV protection liquid/spray included in the kit. I used some ceramic wax I had lying around. Will see how long that lasts before it needs done again.

Chanlon1 I did my lights last year with the Autoglym kit my wife bought me and it didn't come with a UV protection, on their website they suggest using Autoglym super resin polish. I have used this on the headlights every time I wash the car and it's still fine. A few years ago there was a thread re using a spray finish and whether or not it messed with the light output.

I need to do my Z headlights. One was replaced a while back but the other looks like it needs to be removed and cleaned on the inside to better match the newer one. Not sure how difficult it would be to remove a headlight.
I used Cerakote on my 1999 truck and it did include a final coat to protect it. Not seeing before pic of headlight. I also did blinker/running lights. Before and after for my taillights. This was done last Dec. Sorry, iPhone turning pics upside down!

Although I used this kit, I augmented it with lots of my own wet/dry sandpaper grits I use for paint and body work until I was happy with the surface.

I do think the light I cleaned really needs to be done via inside, though I can’t get the bumper off. Scared to pull too hard n care I break the clip at the side of the wing.
I’ve heard that if you can get the bumper off and the light out (a few screws) you should be able to remove the projector and stick a rag inside the lens and poke it about with some stick/rod.

Never try to clean the headlight cover from the inside!! You'll scratch it with your first touch! These plastics don't have any protection on the inside and have zero scratch resistance.

If they are actually dirty from the inside, then you have a problem. But if you are just not happy with polish results, do it again, eventually it will come out shiny.
Mine have been polished twice, look at how nice they look now:

If they are just yellowish but otherwise clearly transparent, try to smear them with hydrogen peroxide (preferably gel), wrap them in a transparent plastic foil and let the sun shine on them for a couple hours. Then clean them and put some protection on them.

Good to know. The lights had some really bad condensation on the inside for a very long time and previous owner never bothered sorting it out. Changing the seal and drying them out solved the problem, however I always felt that the condensation on the inside must have not been good for them and may be worth a clean with a rag, I doubt you’d be able to sand them given lack of access.

Are there visible traces of dried water? I'd only try to rinse an emptied headlight with some cleaning agent and distilled water, hoping to remove the stains and not leave new behind. But even this will be a lot of work and questionable results.

Re-tinted the roof on my car and gave the other one a clean.

Very nice. Went to view a Maldives blue 3.0i the other day someone was selling locally. Unfortunately it’s just not been looked after and required too much cosmetic work. Virtually no service history either. Real shame as I loved the colour and it drove well.

Are you looking for another Z4? You’ve only just bought one.

What did you use to paint the roof?
Fabricoat fabric paint from FurnitureClinic. It’s supposed to be Dark Blue but in fact comes up a very black blue-black, which is a lot better on my car than the grey-black of an untreated roof.

Sort of. Not really. Maybe lol.

My dad really likes the z4 I got and the small things Iv done to it. It was looked after really well. So he has offered to buy it off me. So I’m like half looking at some 3.0i models. This blue was cheap and looked good in the photos. But of course gumtree destroys the photo resolutions so it wasn’t as clean as I’d like.

Do you have some more photos maybe? Before/after, close-up?
