What have you done to your car today?

Attempted my first MFSW refurb.. before and after...

Removed the rubber coating using water and baking soda (absolutely ate through it, was very easy to do), filled a few cracks with modelling putty, sprayed with Hycote Primer and then Hycote Satin Black. Probably going to leave it as is without a laquer as the finish is good and seem to be hard wearing but time will tell.

As a note, the good thing about using water and baking soda is that as it is slightly abrasive it also keys the surface so the primer grips to it better.

The result looks great!

Sitting in front of the zed this evening in Teignmouth drinking coffee and watching the boats by the sea and this oldish bloke asks me if I would recommend buying a Z4. Of course I would, great cars I told him. He wanted one for his granddaughter, we talked about the things to look out for and to tell her to go to the Z4 forum.com for more info. Then on the way home saw a nice E85 coming the other way, we both flashed and waved. What a lovely way to end a perfect day

This is probably not the place to post it, but so what… whomever added the emoji button to the forum posts in the last 48hrs, I salute you!! Ingenious. Many have been asking for a way to comment/express without writing a post. Love it. And will now unashamedly abuse it. Prepare to be emojied (is that a new verb??)

I didn't even notice it, very nice! :happyclap:

It's fair to say that E85s creak. Every plastic part creaks when pressed. I have spent today chasing an annoying creak in my door panel. I finally found that using WD40 Silicone Specialist Spray would stop the creak. So, I spent the next two hours lubricating everywhere that two plastic panels meet inside the car. And now it appears to be silent. No creaks from the seats, panels, centre console, doors or dashboard. Tomorrow will tell how much better it is, but it already sounds quieter just getting in and out in the driveway!

Been replacing corroded brake lines - loads of info and pics on the forum, as usual.

Left front is fine. Front right and rear left went ok - the first one done off the car with a pipe bender, and the second shaped in-situ apart from the final 180.

Might have fallen at the final hurdle now though! What’s the trick to removing the old section of pipe that passes from rear left to right above the rear subframe? It doesn’t want to budge!

Finding it hard to believe you can just thread a new length of pipe in via the same route now. :?

Picked up the painted aero skirts, getting installed tomorrow. Better half was over the moon seeing me bringing them back home

Thanks, yeah - I never miss a chance to dust off ye olde windows XP laptop with a battery life of 30 seconds.

A bigger issue was actually a sheared rear bleed valve, but I managed to bleed to the point where I'd connected the new line and it seems to have not trapped too much air. Caliper is going to need helicoiling at some point though.

Am I being divvy or is there no way of telling how recently someone posted a reply?

Anyway, I've just found this thread and all I can say for today is:

Still hunting down the source of my parasitic draw

After driving mine for a couple of weeks this summer, I’ve sorn it again... There was this little incident. Involving another family car. And the garage door, which cannot open anymore. With the zed inside. New door will arrive in a month or so.
