Why can't I see Smilies?

Probably been asked a million times but does anyone know why I can't see my smilies? For example when I add a happy face all I can see is this........... which is really boring......

Most excellent even if at my end I'm not seeing them. I am seeing everyone else's but not mine...how odd

When editing you can’t see it, after posting you should though?

I joined last week, it was definitely off for me, I didn't even know preferences existed until I followed the above... Sorted now though I can;

This was driving me crazy since the day I joined. And now by mistake found this topic and smilies are visible. Happy days!
