Z3 project...no going back now!

that and the bits you’ve had to re buy
The bloke who bought the rear wings is giving me his old ones for nothing, so all good! He is also going to buy my lovely blue and black sport seats so another win! These Z3 fanatics are stranger than Z4 ones TBH!  IMG_9098.JPG

Inspiration for you, Pondy. What’s possible with a Z3.

Yes seen that. They have 2 the same for sale, a red one and that one. They just changed the seats and steering wheels internally. Half a job!
On another forum there are a few people 'building' 507 reps. Not my cuppa tea TBH.

My goal is for mine to look just like this one:
Still quite a way off TBH.

Will you be allowed to put a period plate on the completed car?

Not with a newer car as a base.

It is big business in NL to use the Mercedes G wagon base as they haven’t changed. So the old VIN determines the tax and registration whilst you get a new car

It’ll be great. You can be Ferris Bueller, almost, or his dad. I think that was a 275 California iirc.

The Ferris Bueller car was a 250 GT California SWB, same as I am building. The cars in the film were also replicas, as the real ones are far too rare and valuable to be driven out of a window. Only 57 SWBs (with the covered headlights) were ever built by Fezza.

TBF if it looks like that it will have been worth the time and effort - good luck getting there.

Is there no patent protection on the original?
That is not a conversation we have on public forums where anyone can see it. Seriously, it really isn't. So no comment! :!:

It has become a VERY secretive and covert world. Which makes it even harder to build one, as the information is not a click away!

I can buy any reg number I like as long as it's not newer than the car (2001). As for the metallic looking plates, not strictly kosha but don't think anyone's been thrown in jail for it.

A period plate would in my opinion look better!
I suppose the car will have to be inspected for build quality and i wonder if something such as that may be spotted ?

Yes a 1960s plate is desirable.
There is no 'inspection' as such, as it is classed as a 'rebody' which doesn't need an IVA. I will fill in a DVLA form to change the model of the car (which can be anything you like) so it doesn't confuse the authorities. It then needs an MOT under the new designation, then can be used on the road.

By the time he's finished scrapping his knuckles , broken a finger, it will have a name that's not allowed until after the watershed
