As many of you know dealers charge around £1200 for this repair.

I have replaced 8 of these now for forum members including Worcester_spoon & most recently Scott1074. I am a senior technician who has worked for BMW for 10 years.

I know most aren't using there roofs this time of year but if you know your motor intermitently works or is getting slow it's a great time to get it done ready for the good weather.

Happy New Year!

Fantastic Bowser134.

I've already saved your details for when this time comes but given this deal it might be worth it sooner rather than later!

Thanks for letting everyone know.

great to see people like you offering great prices to fellow forum members :D

mine is fully working and operational atm, altho i have noticed a slight noise when the roof is almost closed (its fine all the way down and 95% of the way back up, just makes a louder noise for the last 2 seconds) is this anything to worry about or a sign of anything on its way out?? previous owner said its due to the sound insulation having been removed when roof motor was relocated??

Wyldie - I see your only down the road :)

Jingle - The noise you are describing is it very loud and like the motor is vibrating?

Great offer Bowser - a couple of weeks too late for me. Have just had mine done at a local independent.

Jingle - mine (with a new motor, fitted by a BMW independent that has done loads of these) makes a louder noise, when the roof is almost closed (just before the latch motor kicks in). I suspect that its the motor working harder to pull the roof taught.

Mine goes slightly louder just before it seals shut.

Yes Bowser - you're in Camberley if I'm not mistaken!
Very handy. We have two Z4 convertibles so it's huge peace of mind knowing you're closeby.

thanks for your comments guys, yes it does go loud at the very last stage of roof closing for a second or 2, just sounds like a loud whine as the motor is working harder to pull/close everything tight.
im guessing as a few people have this issue its not a major issue my end, apart from when im parked up and decide to close my roof everybody within a few metres hears the noise and instantly turn to see wtf is making that noise lol :headbang:

shame your not further up the country, you could come and look at my roof. its still goosed but as its winter ive been ignoring it. :D

Bowser "Ive heard a new motor get really loud just before it latches and it turned out the new motor was faulty." - I hope not, although if it does, it can go back to the independent.......

Jingle "not a major issue my end, apart from when im parked up and decide to close my roof everybody within a few metres hears the noise and instantly turn to see wtf is making that noise" - glad its not just mine, not the most stylish of entrances when people are already looking at the flash pr*ck who has just pulled up with his hood down in the winter......

I would certainly take you up on this if I knew my motor had gone, which I'm unsure it has.

I had no noises or slow running, went up or down in under 10 seconds but couple months ago I put the roof back up then it just stopped about an inch off locking to the windscreen, had to lock it manually. Red light been flashing since, indicating motor gone, am I right?? NO yellow flashing light and micro switch in boot ok.

BUT

If the motor HAS gone, SHOULD the roof still unlock from the windscreen and side windows drop?? think I have read somewhere that they should even with roof motor failure. MINE DOESN'T.

Is the motor at the top of the windscreen prone to failure? could it be just that?

Its no detriment at the minute because of weather but still needs sorting.
