ZHP vs standard gear knob

Hi

How much shorter (lower) is a ZHP weighted gear knob than a standard one?

And does it really make shifting feel much better.

Thanks
Al

Not sure on the height, but I think the ZHP is about the same weight as the Storm Motorwerks V1 which I have fitted to both my E85's. Takes most of the notchiness out of the box and reduces the height quite a bit. Feels very good.

I was being sensible and not buying it for the 3.0si when I bought that, lasted about a week then caved and bought it.

Here's the comparison in height.
As to making a difference.....I've not noticed any massive difference other than you can feel that it's heavier in the hand when changing gears and feels a bit more robust.

That’s great, exactly what I needed, thanks

Am I right in thinking the old one just pulls of, new one just pushes on, they aren’t screwed on.

Yup, pull straight up, don't twist at all or you can damage the locating lug inside.
New one goes straight on, then give it a decent thump to locate it.

You can usually get one for a decent price on eBay direct from BMW if you wait for a code.

My old standard knob felt horrible, plastic and paint was flaking. ZHP soft touch makes it worth it alone tbh. My gear changes are slightly nicer with the weight.

Make sure you get the right one for the number of gears, 5 or 6.

Cotswold BMW have them on eBay for £70 + £15p&p.

BMW Store on Amazon have them for £76. I got mine from them.

The part number for the 6 speed is 25117896886

The ZHP is a big improvement over the OE item. Don't be tempted by cheap ones advertised by people like aliexpress as they won't have the extra weight of the ZHP. BMW Part Number is B25.11.7.896.886. (Beaten to it).

Just be careful taking the old one off, they can need quite a tug!

Careful not to shmack yourself in the face when the old knob departs the shifter. Pull over your shoulder, if that makes sense.?
Just on looks alone, the ZHP is a huge improvement. Do it.

Cheers chaps

There are a couple of copies on eBay (not from china) saying they are 140g weight, which had caught my eye. But it sounds like you guys are saying genuine only.

Mines a 5 speed

The Part Number has different last 3 digits to the 6 speed. Here's a link for the 5 speed one:- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174802388953?fits=Car+Make%3ABMW%7CCars+Year%3A2005&_skw=bmw+zhp+5+speed&epid=1509500296&itmmeta=01JKH39YHN785MKR0GG7STWNVW&hash=item28b308c7d9:g:dpAAAOSwGWZm0bND&itmprp=enc%3
