Re: Official "New Z4" design process pics
Nice to see Mr Bangle there.
I thought he had left it to others to bastardize his beautiful original design.

There were a lot of people who thought that of Bangle doing that to BMW when the first Z4 was out!Sceptre wrote:Nice to see Mr Bangle there.

Re: Official "New Z4" design process pics
It says Bangle is Head of design BMW Group on his image.
I guess his brief has been to tone it down. That will increase the wideness of the appeal of the car, but I also think it will reduce the strength of that appeal in any one individual. Ie, it's moved from Marmite to more like lemon cheesecake... if that makes sense
Good business for BMW, and good for the old car residuals I would say. It makes me want the old one even more as the new one fails to challenge it on visual drama for me however...

Wait to make comments until you see it and drive it! I've made rash statements like that before after only seeing pictures!
I've now decided to wait until I see one in the metal before I comment further.

Re: Official "New Z4" design process pics
I like the Noble philosophy - If it looks right, it is right.
I do not think it looks right.
The new Z4, in my opinion, is a gluing of many motifs from the 6 series, 3 series, viper, and of course old Z4.
I think Bangle has certainly toned down the Marmite strength of this car in the hope of selling many units.
In short - I believe that if this was the first iteration of the Z4 then there would not be so many followers.
Did I notice that they have also not used the highest powered 3.0i available for this car? 258hp for the Z4 and yet 272hp for the 3 series! I hate it when a manufacturer cripples one model to let the next one have more of an advantage. Is this what we want?
I'm not saying this to 'protect' my thoughts on my current 1st gen Z4 - it's just what I feel.
Of course it will look great in the flesh, but I bought a Z4 for fun and it's looks when I look at it - Not for what my neighbors think. The New Z4 will be sleeker and futuristic whilst trying to be a Lexus SC420 more than an out right roadster.
Softer suspension for the comfy rides! It's a roadster - let it be that way. Reminds me of the guy who orders a double espresso - caffeine free!

Just as a piece of automotive design, the current one is more stunning in appearance, I think the current Z4 will age very very well because you can't really see many other BMW design cues in it... it stands apart very nicely.

15 cm longer and 150kg heavier (for 3.0i)...
Elegant line, luxurious touches specially for the interior. very dangerous positioning I think the new Z would be in direct competition with the SL.
Does anyone know the price? Or expected price?
