What on Earth…

Post by True-Blue » Sun Jan 07, 2024 11:50 pm

I don’t really have an active profile on Facebook as such, no pictures of holidays, family or what I had for dinner; The odd post on a couple of the Z4 and Alpina’s groups and that’s about it.

However, WTF is all the ‘Flat Earth’ conspiracy bollox on there?… :tumbleweed:

Surely they’re all just attention seeking idiots and don’t believe what they’re posting??? :online2long:

What do you mean conspiracy? The Earth IS flat, otherwise we would all fall off.
Have you ever tried sitting on a round thing, it just doesn't work!

Good point. Also spirit levels wouldn't work, would they?

This is actually one of my past times, conspiracy theories and the psychology of people that peddle them

Often, it isnt the content of the conspiracy they believe, what they actually believe is that 'authority' often referred to as 'them' or 'they' are globally coordinating efforts to control and deceive us. Be it the moon landings, flat earth, mud floods (look those ones up!), the great reset, vaccinations and so on and so forth. They will believe anything as long as it underpins their belief that 'they' are out to get us.

Interestingly they see the world in a very binary way, in that either you are one of them, or you are blindly following authority without thinking. Obviously the world is much more complex than that, a million shades of grey, whats ironic is that most conspiracy theorists simply parrot things they are told on the internet, if ever there was someone who blindly follows authority if you like, its them as often they will happily retweet or whatever anything they are told to.

The earth is definitely flat, I’ve seen it on every page in my book of maps

There are also different groups of flat earthers, so they argue amongst themselves around what version of their made up stuff is right. There is the reasoning being because of 'them' as described above but there is also a strong religious contingent and the element of Creationism enveloped in it too as they talk about the 'firmament' etc. as part of their rhetoric on the subject.

I think whats scary is that there are celebrities out there going on TV genuinely saying, hey its flat.

It is one thing to be chatting flat earth on social media, but then there are levels of harmful conspiracies that go too far. Some people for example think that the Challenger shuttle disaster was faked and the astronauts are still alive. So they found people with the same name and passing resemblance to them and harass them outside their houses etc. And yes, 9/11 and the people that died, to start making stuff up, just because of an anti-authority anxiety that person has is disrespectful.

If you ever want the most frustrating hour of your life, debate with one of these halfwit flat earthers. Best done in the pub with access to alcohol.
