Meds 3.0si Coupe - ZedNation 2025

Great to see the old girl looking so well
Did you ever get the passenger front wing off? I was always convinced it had had a small repair at some point early in its life - perhaps a parking knock and a smart repair - just wondered if there was any evidence on the inside face of the wing?

Hey Sean.
Yes, she's in great shape. Sorting all these age related issues has been keeping me busy.
I didn't bother to remove the panels, after completing that process on the drivers side, I really didnt fancy it again.
If I'd have found horrors inside I would have continued to remove them and treat, though.

With the wheel arch liners out and the car up in the air I was able to get underneath for a real good look. There's nothing obvious inside at all.
But it's clear the front passenger wing has been painted, the base colour coat looks 'flatter' than the other panels, underneath the clear coat.
And around the 3.0si badge I can see some contamination that must have appeared during the paint process, too.

I'm happy to live with that, especially as I know the inside is now clean and protected, that's the important thing. The paint job really isn't that noticeable.
If I'm feeling keen in the future, I'll take it to my paint man for a re-paint.

The side reflectors were painted using the left over paint from the wing, what a difference having them painted has made, It looks much sleeker now, those reflectors really stood out (actually, I can't blame them, that's what they're supposed to do  )

Awesome looking coupe! Nice mods everyway.

Thats brakes looks totally awesome!

Thanks, yes, the car is in a good place now.
I took it for a proper, extended drive the other night and it was flawless. Exhaust note is perfect, ride height is spot on and everything works well together.
It doesnt get used much, just to the shops and back, so the opportunity for a 'proper' drive is always welcome.

Who doesn't love a clean engine bay?:

For those interested, all plastic surfaces, hoses and pipes had a soapy sponge/brush then treated with CarPro Pearl 1:2.
I hadn't realised how grey everything was until treatment, it's made a huge difference.

Have you used the brakes in anger yet? Much difference to the standard set up?

And how difficult was the install- just an adapter needed I assume?

I took it out for a short run earlier..
Feel is great but I wont really be able to tell much difference from stock as I dont track the car or, drive it hard on the brakes anyway.
No doubt on track, they'll be great at keeping cool as the surface area and disc cooling is huge over to factory fit setup.

I do have a slightly longer pedal, though.
It's not bad by any means but it's an observation. It actually makes modulatation easier.
It's either a bias adjustment as the rears are still stock, I need to bleed them a 2nd time, or it's just how they are.

These particular brakes were used on 2 track cars, when I got them they were wrecked.
They needed new pistons, seals, a thread repair, and then a full strip and paint refurbish.

Fitment on the 3.0si requires:
Brackets:
https://epytec.de/bmw-performance-bremsanlage-e46-z4-e85-bremssattel-adapter-vorderachse-tuning-adapter-110
Longer hoses:
https://www.autodoc.co.uk/brembo/7550355
CSL / Z4M Discs:
https://www.autodoc.co.uk/ate/957792

I had to bench grind the pads down by 3/4 of a MM to get them to fit with the 28mm CSL rotors. Others have not needed to do this, though.
My Brembo pads are 17mm, other pad options are 16mm.

Update re the longer pedal that started after the new calipers we installed.
I took it to my mechanic for a discuss. We started chatting about master cylinders, brake bias etc etc..
These calipers are a BMW upgrade on the E86/E87 130i and no adjustment is required to the master cylinder in that application.
He wanted to get the pressure bleeder hooked up, so we started with that.

A couple of hours later and phone call to say he thinks it's fixed after pushing over a litre of fluid through each caliper.
Drive home, within a few feet I knew it was fixed..
I now have a reliable pedal, it's MUCH nicer.

Problem solved.

There she is, in the pouring rain after being washed down yesterday. :headbang:

Key fob battery replacement.
My 2nd key was very dead.
A knife, soldering iron, new battery and some epoxy sorted it:

Then a key pairing which had me running around for a while.
The pairing process was simple and worked for both keys. But oddly, only the last key I paired worked to open/close using the buttons.
Whichever order I tried, only the last key would work.

After posting on here. Our guy @Street said I DO NOT insert the 2nd key into the ignition during the pair process. Only the 1st key completes that stage. Boom, it worked and I now have 2 working keys. Fantastic!

Can I ask where you got the battery from. Iโ€™ve had two now. One had the wrong fitting but I managed to manipulate it in and it worked for a while, the second had the right fitting but never had any charge and never charged up

I'm pretty sure it was Ebay.
Panasonic VL2020.
It was a tight squeeze to get the key housing back as the new battery was a slightly different shape but it worked fine and has been since.

Edit: Yes, see here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153789235269

Took the Coupe to the Pistonheads Sunday Service at Silverstone a few weekends ago.
There were 6 Z4's there which was good to see. Some select pics below:

The roadster is almost the same as mine, and when you see it with 108โ€™s, which I also have in two tone, Iโ€™m reminded how bloody good they look at times. But then I know the bubbling and peeling will be along soon and the cost to refurb wonโ€™t sit well and cheaper to change for a different style.

Iโ€™ll have to look out for this event as it looked great, and Silverstone is a stones throw from me.

My 2nd Z4 had clean 108s and as much as I liked them I knew they wouldn't stay that way, so I sold them while they still looked good and got a set of 5 spoke Style 295 E89 wheels.

PHSS events are good so worth looking out for, but the last time I went to Silverstone on one was in 2015 IIRC. They don't always manage to get one at the same locations every year.

Next planned one will be in December at Thruxton I think.

Today is a good day so far.

MOT this morning.
Pass - 0 advisories.
And a comment from a random guy saying how good it looked.

Whoop whoop.

Anyone else make sure the M badge, BMW badge, valve, locking wheel nut and tyre brand all line up ? :tumbleweed:
