Phoenix Yellow Coupe project.

At (bal)-last I’think ive got to the root cause of why the drivers headlight wasn’t working. The ballast box was very crusty, so a new item will be ordered. The passenger headlight which I thought was dry was actually full of water, so both lights will be having an extended stay in the airing cupboard whilst I wait for the new ballast.
I’ve collected two new rear covered for the lights so will fit them when I refit everything.
Whilst the number is off, I’ll swap out the old N/S wing and fit the new items, or I might wait, ow decided yet.
I have (well the car has) also developed a small oil leak following the oil change, so this will also need looking into.
I’ll fun stuff, even though I’ve stuffed my back, however moving seems better than being sat on my backside.

Anyway, here is another TouTube link if you’re interested. I’m genuinely surprised that I’ve got 10 followers! So thank you to whoever they are!!??

Did you get two sets of panels in the end? I saw the one that was linked to you in Facebook just before the crusher and you mentioned the Zed Shed (or were they the same ?)

I got the front bumper, 2 wings, 2 doors and two sill covers. Managed to get it all into the boot of my Volvo!
All was all from Zed Shed.

I spend all day in the office working away and I expect at least an update for me to read during a coffee

Don’t let me down tomorrow

Hello folks.
Not a huge update today. I’ve fitted the new ballast to the headlight along with new covers for the rear of the headlights, so hopefully they remain watertight.
I had a side light out and my local Halfords bulb was completely different to the one recommended. Luckily I brought the old bulb and I chose when which looked most similar. It was a bayonet type bulb as opposed to glass only.
I’ve fitted a yellow roundel into the wing and fitted the indicator into it. I filmed it but the video is rubbish as I don’t have a tripod yet.
Still haven’t got to the bottom of the oil leak, it seems to be around the rear edge of the little maintenance flap, but I can’t see from where.
Anyway, big plans tomorrow, I booked an MoT to see where I’m at. Fingers crossed…….!!

This morning I decided to give the headlights a bit of TLC by means of a polish. The bumper was off, so good access was available and it’s a very quick and easy job which gives pleasing results.
I used a 3M kit bought from Amazon, so far the kit has done my Volvo, my old S-type R and now the Z4. I think this has worked out an £10/car, which is superb value.

The headlights have actually required more attention than anything else so far. They were full of water, the O/S wasn’t working and they looked cloudy. They have been stripped, dried, a new O/S ballast fitted, all bulbs checked and new rear covers fitted. They are now functional and help give the Z its identity back.

The bumper has now gone back on and the car looks complete again, if not a little unloved.

Next is the MoT. I’d love it to pass, but deep down I’m expecting a fail. As much as I love this car, it has been stood a long time, there may very well be issues I can’t see of haven’t checked, so time will tell. It was like a missile on the way to the test centre and drove superb.

Anyway, I’m sat waiting like an expectant father for the phone call, fingers crossed it’s a pass.

Hurrah! Blinky bloody hurrah.

The ‘Zeds not dead’ Z4 has MoT, tax and insurance. I booked it in for friday with pretty low expectations, and it failed………on emissions, and only just.
This morning I bought some catalyst cleaner and put that through as well as putting some heat in the engine. The end result is an MoT pass!
Still loads to do, cosmetic stuff mainly, want to detail the underside, change the wheels, sort out the passenger wing/door/sill, but it’s all there.
After a massive 12 days in my ownership, to have it road legal and in my possession again means the world to me.

Thanks for the kind comments and interest.in this car. Also a big thank you if you have followed me on YouTube. It’s all new to me, but to have 21 followers blows my mind, so thank you.

Anyway, time to drive and enjoy it and improve it now.

That's great news.

It would be great if you took it to the National or NW Zedfest. I'd love to see it in a lineup of the rarer colours like Tiefgrun and Japan Red!

But in the meantime good luck getting it back to how you remember it.

The National is in the Lakes on 5/6/7 July - here's a link:- https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=144071
